I'm working on upgrading my Typhon 223s's stock motor and ESC with the Spektrum Firma 130A Brushless Smart ESC (model SPMXSE2130) and the Spektrum 3668 2400 Kv motor. I have the ESC installed and it does fit on the receiver box, I currently have it hooked up to the stock motor which is not rated for this ESC so that's why I'm thinking about picking up a new motor. Any thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated, I am fairly new to arrma!

Personally, I prefer to use 'paired' electronics that were designed and intended for use together. That being said, there's nothing wrong with using your factory motor with that esc. Spektrum motors seem to be pretty tough and perform well. As long as the spektrum motors KV rating is compatible with the esc, then I don't see any issue.

What do you mean when you say your motor isn't rated for that esc?

Thanks for the response! The stock motor is 3100Kv and I thought it wasn't rated to work with the ESC I upgraded to which is the Spektrum Firma 130a-SPMXSE2130. I'm not using HW.

Sorry, half asleep and misread that. The specs on that esc show a 4000kv limit on 3s and a 3000kv limit on 4s. What lipo are you going to run?

On 3s you should be fine. You'd be pushing limits on 4s but I think you'd still be OK. From my experience, being at the edge of the kv rating might cause slight cogging on take off and possible temp issues. I'd run it and watch your temps closely.

No worries! I have both 3s and 4s batteries, I do plan to run it on 4s though. Thanks for those tips! I did find the 2400Kv motor on Jenny's site and the price is pretty good so I may just order it in case I have any issues....

Also… if a part isn’t in stock? Have an email reminder and the money ready. I snagged a ton of parts for my 3s V1 Typhon brushless. I bought an extra entire car except the motor and ESC. Used those parts often!

Update to this thread! I finally finished upgrading my Typhon 223s. One thing led to another! I swapped bodies, added a wheelie bar, upgraded the motor & ESC, added a SR6200A AVC Receiver and installed the aluminum steering rack. Installed Pro-Line shocks & Gladiator tires. It is bound to the iXSR transmitter and using a Spektrum 4s battery.
Just waiting for the Moo-Slick to dry so I can take it out for a spin!

Hey Man, nice build. Could you add a parts list so I can do the ESC and Motor Upgrades to my Typhon as well? I'm running it on the 13 Tooth Pinion with slightly smaller tires diameter wise and it still gets uncomfortably hot during track use.
Just add all the parts numbers if you can.
Thank you a lot in advance. Keep shredding.

Thank you! Will do, I haven't touched this RC in a while so I'll pull it out and follow up.
