Armorall trick to eliminate fuel foaming...

I just want to say... I don't know who found it way back in the day or how they even found out about it... but man does it ever work! You can literally take a new bottle of fuel, shake the hell out of it and watch the little tiny bubbles swirl all around in the fuel and it foams up at the top and so on... ONE SPRAY of regular original gloss armorall in that baby (yes, beleive me, I was VERY reluctant to do this... but I figred what the hell... I'll try it) and INSTANTLY you can't get it to do that again. It's amazing. You have to shake it up to mix it all up, but as soon as you stop, it is as if you are shaking a bottled water... it just stops sloshing around with NO bubbles what so ever!

Just wanted to let you guys know who are hesitant to do this and haven't tried it yet... DO IT. No more fuel foaming up while you are running your nitro powered vehicle... that's a damn good thing. Tons of the old timers that have been in nitro since waaaaay back in the day have been doing this little trick since the begining with NO adverse affects, so it can't be bad... I am all about learning from others that have experience.

As for longevity, I've done it to the past 4 gallons of fuel I've ran with no adverse affects to the engines.

What kind of fuel do you run? I run plain old Blue Thunder and I've never seen it foam up in the tank causing problems.

Then you must have a very smooth riding RC. Most fuels when properly agitated (by shaking, or bouncing around in an offroad RC) will develop somekind of air bubbles.

I run Blue Thunder and have not had the problem too extensively, but every now and again I will see bubbles in my fuel.

It must be the new Kanai shocks I got =) It's pretty smooth!

But I guess I've seen a bubble in the fuel line from time to time, but only when I'm pretty much out of gas. So I don't know. I shake my fuel bottle before I fill the tank and I've never seen so many bubbles that it's like a foam.

I've heard of the trick though, and if it ever becomes a problem I'll surely give this one a try. It's a neat trick.

Some of the guys at the flying field, who REALLY like to twist their planes out, run into foaming problems. They add Glycerine to the fuel. I don't know how much per gallon they use, though.
When I first heard that, my comment was, "There's something about having the words Nitro and Glycerine together that kind of bothers me."
Don't worry, it's not the explosive combination. Glycerine is available in any drug store.

Glycerine and armor all act to destabilize the fuel so that a bubble will collapse under the pressure of the air. Basically, the air overpowers the surface tension of the liquid causing the bubbles to pop or not form at all. Pretty cool trick.

Armorall and other tire "shinners" are the reason why car soap manufacturers recomend that you wash your tires LAST since it will cause the bubbles in the soap to stop forming. The brush or sponge will pick upthe product and render the soap usless. Same issue for fuel, but it's anti foaming is what we're all after, right?

Ill repeat, nobody I know nor have I read ANYWHERE of long term testing of what it can do to a mill. But I just dont see anything harmful about it either. It does a great job of acting as a lubricant on my brake pedal and steering wheel just after washing my ride.... My 1:1 that is.... So I think of it as an oil additive.

And yes, it certainly works. I have always done this with every gallon of fuel oppened in the past 2 years. No problems to speak of and no foaming to speak of either. My rides dont run smooth either.

I've only been in the hobby for about two years, and never had foam in the tank on any of my rc's. I've ran Blue Thunder, Top Fuel, Trinity Monster and Platinum, and currently use O'Donnell. All 20%. Sounds like a good trick though. I'll keep it in mind for the future, or anyone else that brings up this problem.

I run Byrons race fuel as well too... trust me, mine foams. I run the 25% though. Either way, if you shake the gallon, you will see what I mean... it bubbles and there is a foam that is generated at the top just for a little bit... you spray one shot into a full gallon, shake it up then... it's like shaking a bottle of water, no bubbles at all.
