Did you know there is a right way and a wrong way to install e-clips?

If you look at an e-clip you will see that is is a stamped part.
One side of the clip edges will be slightly curled down from the stamping process and the other side will be smooth and rounded.

Proper installation of the clip demands that you closely look to find the rounded side and place it against the moving part. If you put them on the wrong way, the sharp surface of the clip will catch on the moving part and may cause it to dislodge from the mounting groove.

A good example of this is on hinge pins. Place the rounded edge against the bulkhead or against the a-arm.

I hope this will help. I can't tell you how many times I have had to replace clips in the field. This has eliminated clip loss by 75% on my T-Maxx and AE-GT

I too was in the dark. This is great stuff to know when I install my newly purchased Ti hinge pins from Traxxas. Good fact! Thanks Ed.

is this a traxxas or moster truck thing? i have yet to lose an eclip on any vehicle i have. well, except for when i am working on them, they tend to fly across the room , when i pop them off. anyone got a good idea, on removing eclips, excpecially the smaller ones?

the only advice I can give is magnet to "sweep" across the area where you think it went.

To remove them I use a small tapered needle nose pliers. The trick is to magnetize them first.:D

I had no idea they were called "e-clips"

always called them snap rings or something.

oh, no humboldt - i have dark green carpeting, once i drop em, they are long gone. i was referring to a way to remove them from the hinge pins, ect..

i like your idea about the needlenose, eddy, but sometimes the small ones are too small for me to even get the needlenose plyers up under. the magnet idea isnt bad though. i think i am just gonna spray paint them neon orange. lol.

Hehe..I have manged to loose a few in the carpet as well. Only to find them a week later by stepping on em or sucking em up with the vacuum. Maybe I need to invest in one of those see through vacuums. That way all of the small bits I loose will be found once again. :)

Dropping anything on my shop floor is end all. On the rare occasion when I decide to sweep under the workbench its like making a trip to the LHS.:p

NN, Get a smaller set of needle nose, they make super small ones with real long noses.

I got mine from a friend who is in the jewelry business. If you can't find them I will do some research.

Wow thanks for the tip. I am gatting new hinge pins this weekend. I will now know how to put them in "the right way."

Wow, I didn't pay close attention to those, if they clip and stay on, thats all that matter to me.. I did notice they were rounded on one side, but didn't know what for. :wtf:
