Are tire i serts neccessary?

As in Topic: are foam tire inserts neccessary in 1/10 basic Buggy?

If you want the buggy to perform properly then yes. That being said theres nothing stopping you from running without foams.

If I am not mistaking ,I think back in the old days some models didnt have foam inserts!
But I wouldnt run with out them!

Yea there was such a thing ,I think they where a nematic type of tire for
the nostalgic kits!
I myself didnt know but I heard about it briefly not too long ago on someone's
Y-tube channel!
In that case being what that kit is ,you probably dont need them!..

Tires back in the day were a lot firmer and thicker than they are today. On the old school Duratrax tires I have, foams aren't much needed.

I am not very familiar the DT03 chassis but it's clearly not a true "race grade" platform where Tamiya has discontinued their TRF lineup which used to produce competitive off-road buggies too!

That said, the DT03 appears to use standard 2.2" buggy wheels so I would consider using these open cell inserts here for the rear:

If the tires handle like you want and can take the abuse, then don't bother with the inserts.
If you decide to go with inserts, look around as there are lot's of different foam density inserts you can get to get the traction you like.

Because most 2wd buggy tires are skinny and really firm already. Most don't even come with foams.

Front inserts are common for clay/dirt:

It really comes down to preference and tire design which can change from one manufacturer to the next. Softer compound rubber designed for dirt to get more grip will need an insert to support the tire where harder compound rubber designed for carpet doesn't need the support, though I have seen folks install inserts on front carpet wheels to take away some grip to make the car easier to drive.

Not really sure if the DT03 will get enough speed to make much difference either with or without inserts... shrug
