Maybe a silly, dumb question but are diffs water tight?

after a good bash today my buggy is in a right state of affairs.....dirty wouldnt even come close!

I'm wanting to take the engine and all electronics off the buggy and dunk it in a water/detergent bath, obv i will blow dry it with the girlfriends hair dryer....without her knowing ofc, she would cut off my 3rd leg lol.

Some diffs are sealed, however, the diff housings are usually not water tight. Dunking it in detergent may wash off some of the grease on the ring and pinion gears. Instead of submerging the rig, spray it down with simple green, let it soak and then spray it off with a hose or compressed air.

yeah I wouldnt dunk my kit. If anything Id take the engine and electronics off and hose it off followed by a thorough blow drying session. However I dont usually do that. If its muddy I usually let it dry that way and then knock off the loose stuff and then I take a big brush with long semi stiff bristles and go over it and knock as much of the dried mud off as best I can. This will usually result in a kit that mostly just looks dusty....then I spray small sections of it down with CowRCs Moo-tor cleaner and then blow it off with 100psi from the air compressor (canned air works too). And then every 5-10 cleanings instead of doing moo-tor cleaner I'll do a full and proper teardown cleaning with simple green and I'll go through and clean and repack all the bearings too.
