Anyone use a Drill Doctor???

I am wondering if anyone uses a drill doctor here. I have an upcoming project that will be eating some drill bits up and well I might be money ahead to go ahead and get me one. It's an awful fat price tag for one but I imagine it would pay for itself after a while. If you have even used one can you let me know how well it sharpens!! Thanks

What U Plan On Drilling Were You Plan On Burning Up So Many Bits? Drill Doctor Is An Awesome Tool To Have Cuts Three Different Pitches On A Bit. I'm Old School I Walk Up Too The Grinder And Sharpen Our Bits That Way.

That's the thing, I am gonna be drilling Titanium. I have a bench grinder a nice 8 inch one. I've never sharpened bits before though.

nnf if you drill very slow with plenty of cooling oil.you should have no problem with sharping your bits cobalt of course

Titanium Huh, never drilled titanium, if anything get yourself a nice set of cobalt bits and some cutting fluid and proceed to drill slowly. Do you plan on putting this in a drill press or hand drill? Sharpening bits free hand takes awhile to get the right pitch on the bit, but with practice it can be done.

Zandor bro I did heed your advice and picked up some good cobalt bits. I just figured they would go bad no matter. Yes I will be using a drill press. I will go slow no worries there. You got a link to that cooling oil there zandor??

I use Hercules Dark cutting oil in my pipe threading machines at work. I'm able to thread up to 4" black pipe, at a low speed of course, with no heat problems to my cutting dyes... Could be a bit messy with a drill press though...

Hmmm Uh oh I smell a pipe fitter!!! Man if you are I certainly have been around plenty of that oil and if it's what I"m thinking of I certainly don't want any of that nonsense on my floor here. I've cleaned up and been around tons of that stuff. Was always nice when they would grab some scrap drywall and make that crap go away.

I can't find it on the internet but when I was in the sheet metal union, making neon signs, we used this grease that came in a carboard tube called "do-all." Not sure on the spelling. We used it for drilling into half inch steel supports and I-beams. Does not go everywhere and makes a huge difference. You know what your doing and a bit will last quite some time as opposed to 2 holes in an I-beam.
