Look up hobao or hong nor. They are the US version of ofna. For the price you have listed on that site you could get yourself a hyper 7/8 or a jammin. Shumacker won't be much better then the car that you already have.
 
but you'll need to spend £140 to get it up to standard of the Hyper......

Check out Microtechracing.com or apexmodels.co.uk for a better selection.
 
Ryan would be a good one to talk to because he is on the other side of the pond just like you!

But he has a good point, if you go with a cheaper one you will have to drop some money into it to get it running comparable to a hyper or a jammin
 
man those prices seem steep. Maybe you could buy from a US seller and ship it to the uk.

Thats UK prices for you bro!!!!

I have imported car parts (for my real car, Focus LOL) because the prices are much cheaper over the pond, but got stung with UK import tax!!, even though i had them marked as 'gift' :mad:

If i could handle a 8 hour flight i would be over like a flash, what with the 2:1 exchange rate.

I will have a butchers at that site Ryan, cheers mate.

Yeah the M1B set me back £385 (about $750) and was still cheaper than the MBX5R by £100. ($195) Cost aside I've found the two I suggested to be the most reliable. Microtech especially. While the $ is weak at the moment importing stuff is very attractive but we get caned for 17.5% tax on import (on the shipping cost as well!) so by the time you actually get your stuff in your hands you've not saved a huge amount and you run the risk of everyone in the postage chain playing catch/or "losing" your new toys.....and you've wait "x" long.

Something large and heavy won't save much £££ by import (because of the extra shipping cost which is taxed) but something small and light like an engine or servo is where I can save money.

Check out fleabay as well dave but stick to a proper brand. For your purposes a decent looking 2nd hand Hyper7 would be ideal for you to learn with and can be had for about £100.
 
Cheers for the heads up Ryan. I have taken on board all the above info, and am very grateful, and i wish i had found this forum BEFORE i bought my nitro car.

I used to race 1/10 electic buggies back in the mid 80's (Hornet, frog, them ended up with a Schumacher Cat which I'm suprised they still sell) so i have plenty of driving experience. Just need to learn about the nitro scene now.

I would prefer to stay away from ebay, and but from a shop, only because if there is any come back, i could take it back to the model shop.

Really this is for my 10 year old son, but i would want a good 'un as I'm sure i will want a go myself. :)

No problem...seriously check ebay though, I found a couple of BRAND new Hyper7 tq rtr's (These come with a race legal .21 pull start engine) for around £220 plus postage on Buy it Now from reputable shops. These are a much better platform the the Swift and parts and upgrades are MUCH easier to come by. Any modelshop worth its salt won't turn you away if you have any sort of problem (which is more than likely to be self-inflicted anyway).

Just bought my daughter a Hornet for her birthday by the way, she loves it!!! (shes 6!)

I was about 10 when i had the Hornet and loved it. I know how she feels :yes:

mmmm I think my Dad has bought him 'something' at the model shop yesterday. I'm guessing because me Dads being very secretive when i questioned him. If he has, it maybe the swiftII, as he was concered about the speed these things go. Either way I'm sure I'm gonna have fun with it <cough> i mean my son !!. (and it hasnt cost me ££)

Yep he bought the Swift II, i spent hours reading the swift posts the other night, and this mkII version has had all the niggly bits sorted.

I will let you know how i get on breaking it in, at the weekend.
