Hey,

I just wanted to see if anyone plays any reeded instruments(Clarinet, Oboe, Flute, Saxaphone). I currently play clarinet and soon to move up to saxaphone. I've been playing for about 4 months now and I have a privet teacher who has helped me considerably. Some kids have been playing for 3 years, and I play better than them. Friday my band director(I have proof he's ***) asked me if I wanted to play saxaphone(since I'm so good a clarinet.) I accepted and I'm now looking for an Alto Saxaphone. I want to know if anyone else plays anything and if anyone knows a good saxaphone brand.

I don't, but my neice does. She's pretty good at it too. She's the lead chair in Tenor sax (Jazz band), as well as violin (strings and classic). She's also somewhat of a tutor for the music department at the highschool.

I played 7 years of Clarinet and Sax from 2nd grade on. Was first chair Clarinet in the School Orchestra and played second Tenor sax in the Jazz band. I beleive I had an Artley. Selmer is also a decent brand. But if your just learning ANY brand is fine. No point in spending thousands when $300-$600 will get you a very quality instrument.

You may want to rent something for the first few months or a year before you decide to buy one. I know a lot of people that have done this. It will give you an idea if your going to like it and stick with it. Your LMS should have rentals or even used ones to buy if you so choose.

I drag out my Trumpet a few times a year and play a few tunes that were drilled into memory from the marching band days 20-30 years ago. Its funny how you never forget. I sure looked good in that funny hat.

I do the rent to own program. Anyways, my parents already bought the clarinet and I love it. I've played saxaphones at the LMS and I loved them so we're gonna do the rent to own program. That way it's not such a blow to my parents bank account.

Yeah i played clarinet for a year and then switced to bass clarinet and played that for 6 years and then i switched to tuba and learned to play that in about 3 months

yeah its fun but i would say rent before you buy and you director should give you a sax to use cuz he asked but i guess every school doesn't have the money to provide insterments but i would ask him about it

well no...it's actually like this. "Todd, would you like to move up to saxaphone? If not, thats fine, but keep in mind you'll have to get you own saxaphone."

The only saxaphone they provide is a baritone since it's so expensive.

Yeah but like my director had a spare of everything for the kids he asked to switch and for the kids that either left their horn at home or in the shop cuz kids were always leaving their horns somewhere

well just have fun with it and i think the rent to own thing ends up costing you more but yeah

have fun with it

well...if you do it at the right time, theres no intrest. You just have to "rent to own" at the perfect time which is usually christmas.
