Anyone notice the OS 18 is under $100?

The 4tec is crazy fast but when it comes to turning with that much apeed or handeling.......

Pladfish i still think its stupid to run an engine at 320 degrees, i would never do that. But hey if it worked for him than more power to him.....

Also iwasnt calling you stupid i was calling the statement ran a fantom at 420 sucessfully.

I was just being a DIIIIICK when I said that. I'm suposed to be laying in bed resting my knee and the percosets make me crabby I only take one at night...I know it goes against all laws of RC nature but the fantom .18 with the red head only is actually designed to run at higher temps....ir's some sort of Silicone impregnated sleeve....reallly high tech poop....I got mine up to 450-460 a few times just to see what it would do.....it never fell off....I was really bummed they changed them.....I sold mine to a friend who couldn't tune his engine and kept overheating them. he's still running it...that engine kicks ass....swear by it!

but the O.S. .18 looks to be the next best thing to it...it probably has more bottom than the fantoms did...

So, what exactly would need done to put the slide carb version in a 2.5 Maxx?

I'm not positive but all i have seen are the red head fantoms they are still around plad. Dont worry about peepee, their painkillers. But i dont think you can put the os .18 in a 2.5 maxx if its a side exhaust. Is it a side exahaust?

I have, stay with me here. 1 Maxx with the red headed FR.18 and the fantom works pipe. I run it consistanly around 300 degrees. I have well over 2 gallons through it and feels low on compression when turning the flywheel or pulling the starter but dosnt effect performance, still runs strong, I also have a MAXX with the OS 18CV-RX it is side exhaust, so are the first gen. MAXXs so just pick up a first gen header and I'm running a traxxas tuned pipe I think?(got it from olds) for the first gen. My OS 18 is rotory carb also so I eliminated the swivel flipped the throttle srvo around and ran my linkage similar to the first gen. MAXX also. Both engines greatly outperform the 2.5TRX and the OS isnt even completly broke-in yet and has the potential of putting it all over the fantom? The fantom has been pesky and finiky but not nearly as bad as the 2.5. I would buy another 1! The OS time will tell so until then ???

The pipe I sold you was a power racing products pipe.

Glad to hear you got some more use out of it. I'm kind of kicking my self for getting rid of it though. Now that I have the Nitro MT, I'm stuck with the pipe and header that came with it and it kind of sucks...

I'm sure I'll be getting an OS 18 for it. If it can lug your maxx around better than the fantom, it will definitly carry my Nitro MT around without breaking a sweat.

It will have plenty of power for the MT, you might even need some stronger diff gears with the OS.

I doubt it. Maybe if I got better tires. As it is, the worn out and dieing NitroStar 15 will make all 4 tires do a burnout on dry pavement.

I'm just looking to get a solid engine that will last a long time. Since the OS 15 cv-r(x) is discontinued, I was looking at the 18... then the price dropped! Now I just need to nag at my wife until she lets me buy it. But I doubt I'd install it until warmer weather. I'd hate to ruin a nice engine when I already have a crappy one I don't care about with some life left in it.

Good luck killing that fe! I installed one on a RS4 3 That was on an origanal RS4 my first nitro, that I got used that was his first nitro that he baught used that was that guys first nitro.Still with me? Anyway I know for a fact I put 4 gallons on it and the previous owner ran 3 gallons and it remains to be seen the actuall total fuel consumption. I put a new piston sleeve in it and added a OS 10e carb and a purple HPI heatsink (had the flat head) about a gallon ago and it keeps performing better. every run

Mine is the older NitroStar 15 I think. It was the MT(1) version, not the MT2. It has a short fat purple head on it.

I also modified a OS carb to work on it. But it has almost no compression and I'm having a hell of a time keeping the temps reasonable... below 280. Above 240 and it doesn't have any power, but I can't keep it lower. And that's with 35-40 degree temps outside.

Hey one of my friends has the same MT, the one with the short fat purple head.

pierow: If you are looking for a T-maxx engine and can get one of those red fantoms do it...the OS will be more punchy... but the fantom will last a long time....

Jonser4u: yes the fantom is more finicky than an OS but if you tune it right it should be very close...I've run both (very recently) and the OS definately has more bottom end but the fantom has just as much if not more on the top....I get to play with 2 of the t-maxxes I sold to friends and they have one of each in them...almost identical set-ups....so the comparison is pretty good.....I have to help tune them whenever they go out, (I sold them to neighbors for their kids so I've sort of taken on the PIt crew responsibility)....anyway that's my opinion and I'm stickin to it....

I've run over 7 gallons through an OS 15 cv-r(x) before I traded the truck it was in off... how much more life would you intend on getting?

I figure the 18 would do better since you'd be less likely to lean the crap out of it to get good power.

The sale on the engine ends on the 15th... I just noticed last night that it's a promotional week long sale... just started really whining at my wife.

If you miss the sale, Vegasracer has 1 for 100 shipped to your door in the F/S forum. I got mine from him and several other things. Great guy to deal with.

Whining works! Just ordered mine along with appropriate engine mounts (i hope) for my MT. $108 shipped with mounts (2 sets) and a collet that I'm not sure if I need.

You wont be disappointed, good mill your gettin there! Have fun and post some vids when it warms up!

I bought my O.S. .18 CV-RX through Tower Hobbies on January 26, 2005, the same day my son Jake was born. I paid $99.99 for it along with an O.S. crank locking tool and OFNA primer bulb/fuel filter. 99 dollars for just the engine! Now they have jumped up to $139.99. I am thinking of buying a piston, sleeve, and conrod for the distant future seeing as how O.S. engines last a lifetime.
