does anyone know what the fastest RTR nitro truck that is available in the market is? or if there is one coming out this year? I'm planning on buying a daily beater but i want something that is real fast and it has to be a truck, not street car, buggy (although those are wicked fast) or stadium. if you know top MPH that would be great, thanks

mph

Since you're looking into the power of these trucks, I have a suggestion to keep in mind. Top mph is great, and without a fast top end the trucks wont be any fun. But I would also recomend looking into torque and the overall powerband. These trucks with the highest mph usually dont have stump pulling, wheel pulling bottom end power. The trucks that have the highest average numbers on the dyno throughout the powerband don't often have the highest peak mph, but they are way more powerful in most of the rpm range, which is very important when driving a MT since bashing usually does not see the truck wound up to it's full top speed for long periods of time. It's often stop and go with all different RPM ranges.

I hope this makes sense and helps out some.

It's pretty much depends on how you break it in, how you can handle it, etc. If you want a nice truck for starts, Savage X or Revo.

My buddies LST2 is faster than my Truggy and buggy (top end) becasue it has a second gear. It is also faster than my friends Revo. It is awsome.

If I bought one, that would be it.

i was kinda thinking about the lst2, but wasn't sure about the reliablilty of it and parts availability at my LHS. i have 2 LHS and one favors electric and the other favors traxxas products :( i also am considering the revo but I'm not looking forward to modifying my next vehicle, i have a shelf queen tmaxx which was only fun when building it.

Here's the low down on top mph...

If you search through and find a box that says 70+MPH buy and then see how many times and in how many places you can actually get it to go 70 MPH or better yet, 50 MPH and see how long the mill lasts, especially if you are a wizard at tuning. In most cases the rod will snap before you see that speed. High or excessive straight line speeds claimed are nothing more than marketing gimmicks. As for an LST2 being faster than a truggy or a buggy, you're on crack or running a POS engine, simply stated!

For speed... the savage-x with a 3speed, strong engine and low spur/high cb would probably be about as fast as you can get in the MT's.

The LST2 is pretty fast, but gearing options are very limited.

The Revo is fast, but can be a handful at a high speed due to it's light weight and suspension geometry.

The t-maxx 3.3 can be geared pretty tall, but it won't have the stump pulling torque down low like the savage.

Jetmech,
My AS smokes my buddies muggy pretty easily in a straight line... now for cat/mouse games... he's hard to catch! That pesky center diff and low stance makes the muggy much more agile. Granted, I'm running an LRP28 and he's running the stock muggy engine... but even with my stock engine I could still take him in a straight line. Just not as easily.

Speed isn't everything. You have to control it. Everyone first gets into it, that is the first question they ask. Don't be fooled by all that hype.

Look at what your hobby shop has for parts. The Revo and Savage are great.

A muggy doesn't count for anything, it's a pile no matter what class it's in. I can't stand when they show up to race, you constantly have to move them out of the way. The only thing a muggy is good for is practicing handing out wheels!

Acually it is faster is a straight line. We have all three "RTR" versions and when we all get it on in a long long straight, it takes a minute, but the LST2 with its second gear will very slowly catch up.

I'll try it again this weekend when we all go out again, just to for sure confirm for a second time. I think the buggy might edge it out, but the truggy doesn't.

Now as for going around a track, well Duh, of course the buggy will take them out, but he was just taking about top end.

RTR = 1/2 the motor I'm not knockin' ya but a RTR motor isn't putting out nearly what a decent motor is capable of, as evidenced by a truggy getting beat in a straight line run by a MT.

Yeah, I totally agree. I do not think the motors are that fast, but pretty reliable (so far), I have already ran probably 3-3.5 gallons though the 8T and it is still going strong. The LST2 has the same motor at the Truggy.

It is just hard to go out and buy another engine when the one I have works fine. I do not race at a track at all, just have our own little track set up.

You can check out the video under the video section titled "new video".

What engines are in the truggy and LST2? The gray headed engine and orange headed engine are different. The carb on the gray one is bored out much larger. At least if your talking stock engines... The orange headed engine runs a dynamite part # for a carb, the gray one runs a losi part # carb. Guys at the LST forum have compared the carbs side by side and the are quite a bit different. The gray one should put out better numbers for HP and RPM. Which might explain the latency on power in the LST2 - 8t comparison you've been seeing, if that's what you have.

Fastest out of the box, I would agree. Fastest for the track would be a truggy. No need for anything then a decent 21 size mill. For MT's the LST series have been fast out of the box.

Yes, they are different colers. I think the LST2 has the orange head.

We had fun this weekend. The LST2 and the Truggy went head to head and they are about the same speed when the LST2 does not hit second. Once it hits second it starts pulling away. But over all around a track the truggy beats it due to the suspension.

Another frined of mine just bought a brand new Revo. He has had it for about a month and said he was going to put a woopin on us because it was so fast.

When he got out there and started driving aginst us he got whooped bad. I mean real bad. There is no comparison. Revo's are slower stuck and there suspension cannot take a track at all let alone sharp turns.
