Well its been about 16 years since I last fished so now that I am living out in the country I figured I might take it up again.

Any suggestions on what some good gear to go with is? I am looking to do some lake fishing locally to me and will probably get one rod to put a float on and another to screw around with some lures and see how they work.

I will probably go to walmart to get the gear and they have a fairly good selection just not sure what some of the better names are.. I know when I was young I had a Zebco but it could have been a peice of crap and I would have never known the difference :)

The rod and real i use is shakespere,i eagle claw's not to bad, zebco, well i stay away from things that come from barbie poll's,as for gear,i useually use eagle claw hooks, powerbait stuff, rooster tailes, marshmellow(yeah really marshmellows but the mini kind),rapala's,berkley rattler lurs, trilene iron silk,XL,XT line,Then just your cheapy bobbers. That should pretty much get your setup for the lake,When it comes to a rod and reel,i prefer a smaller limper rod for the lake, when fishing for trout, crappie, blue gill, perch, catfish, but when I'm fishing for bass i prefer a medium length rod with some limp to it,as for reel's i don't have a huge prefernce just anything that's not cheap and won't break,I'm using quantium on all my polls but 2 right now

My favorite fresh water set up is my Shimano 4000 series spinning reel, with a Berkley lightning rod. I use 8lb stren line, I really dont like heavier lines except on my catfish rods. As far as lures, I have my best luck here in Florida with rubber worms. I like purple culprits, and pumpkin seed yamamoto worms.

I love fishing! I have been going at least once a week since the beginning of March. As for equipment, I have different rods/reels for different types of fishing, some cheap and some not so cheap. Fishing small pan fish is my favorite, I use a zebco micro light combo, nothing like a big crappie or bull brim stripping drag LOL. As long as your having fun!

Ultra light tackle and coastal fishing is fun. I have this daiwa coastal baitcasting http://www.tackletour.com/reviewdaiwacoastal.html and a berkley rod. Also have bigger sabre rods an pen reels with 15-25lbs test. Normally use 8lbs for bay fishing and there are some big fish in Newport, as in something is/was towing around my dad's new shimano reel and his rod that was worth like $250 a couple years back. My dad got distracted, next thing that happened was all the guides were bent back as it was ripped overboard. I find saltwater much more interesting then fresh, all we have here are stocked artificial lakes.

A nice cooler.... Plenty of beer.
And don't forget beer!

I do a little bass fishing. We have been talking about an overnight trip to catfish. Hope to do that a couple of times this year.
I need to get a lot more fishing gear too. My stuff got loaned out. :opps:

i have a rc boat i built which has a size 46 nitro engine on it mounted on top......a sorta airboat......i take it to the lake when i go fishing & use it sometimes for fishing.......i fish from the bank & if i caint cast out far enough to get to the fish with my rod i use the rc boat........usualy i tie a spinner type bait to a 6ft length of fishing line & tie the line to the eye behind the boat than i send it out to where i see fish jumping......sometimes i drive it fast, slow or both & i have cought some that way.....not many but some....

fisHing!!!!!!I swear this was going FFA.......I thought I read fisTing...........

I perfer the Mickey Mouse rod and reel myself monkey.

did you know there is a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore looking like an id***

:jk:

I would drag out all the fish pics but they are posted in atleast 4-5 other threads. I spend a good part of the summer at the lake or off shore.

I use a ultralight shakespere uglystick for pan fish and for Walleye and Northern I use a medium ugly stick. Both rods I use Shimano reels.

For bass at the lake I have a G-Loomis GLX PR844C 7 foot fast action with a Calcutta 250 for bait, and a Lamiglas S661 with a Shimano 2000 for a spinner setup. Lately I have been using Spiderwire 2-4 due to its super sensitive feel and no stretching. At the lake I go to, the LM Bass tend to mouth the bait more then strike it. Sad but true there is little top action ever. Honestly I would rather catch one on the top rather then the usual 10-20 underneath.

Anyone do any fly-fishing. That's pretty much all I do anymore. We got the Truckee River out here and the World Class Pyrimid Lake. I use a Sage 6' 9wt with a Lamson 1.5 reel. Catch alot of bows and brown trout. Getting into a lot of Cutthroat and some Mountain white fish. Biggest that I caught so far was a 26" 7lb Cutthrout back in Nov. And when your fly-fishing always remember
"Your one with the fly" lol

Fishing is one of my favorite sports. I fly fish and I'm a nut. I'm actually going on a trip to montana this summer for a 2 week fly fishing trip. I might just have to bring my buggy along with me

60" Fenwick graphite superlight, shimano open spool, 6 lb line, 4 lb leader, I always break the 2 lb. line. For lake fishing, Velveeta rolled into a 3/8" ball on a #14 gold treble, 1/8 oz slider sinker.

I have a 12' aluminum now with a 5HP putter, this is a buddy of mine's canoe at Diamond Lake, Mt. Theilsen in BG.

Yeah I like to fish. :D
