My one-way bearing on my Trx 3.3 seized to the starter shaft on the 5th tank of break in. I was going at wot for one of the first times and it just stopped. I spent a couple of hours trying to find out what was wrong and finnaly found out that my one way was basically welded to the starter shaft.

I spent about two hours building a huge ass jump for it (pics to come) then this happend and I can't get to a hobby store till wednesday.

Has anyone else had this happen? Any idea on how it happend? Right before it stalled it was running awesome.

You are the first... I have heard of the OW going south but not along with the shaft. Is your Mill fried???

The mill is fine, I even got the one way off the shaft but it took a hammer and a lot of time, so the shaft was salvaged.

While attempting to start the engine smoke was coming out of the exhaust and the engine got hot, it seems as if it was running, but just as fast as the EZ start could push it. I tore it down too and everything still looks shiny new, so I assume its fine.

I take it this has not happend to anyone else?

Now that I think about it I think this happend to the last Revo I had, which was a 2.5. I sold it to olds and he got it started, but he switched to a pullstart, maybe he changed the one-way so he was able to get it started...hmmm

I have seen it happen multiple, multiple times and it has ended mine and a few race buddies days early. But never with a 3.3 or a EZ start.

Our issues were with the OS .18 and Roto-starts. The output shaft on the OS .18 is slightly shorter than the TRX engines.

What happens is the OWB can slide back into the roto-start far enough to basically, for lack of better terms, "hang over the edge". It will seize and then spin the roto-start at the same RPM as the engine. Needless to say the roto-start self-destructs and melts down.

Was your EZ loose from the engine?

In most cases we had to replace the rear shaft.

My ez start was nice and tight, the one way was not hanging over the edge, it just seized itself to the shaft somehow. It was on there good too, took a hammer and about on hour to get it off.

Now I'm not an expert, and I know barely anything about nitro since I got mine for x-mas and have only ran it a few times, but I've had to replace the starter cord twice, so I got a good long look at the one-way. I think that what it does to make it a one-way is that when the starter mechanism is turned, it engages a wedge inside the one-way that pushes the little rollers onto the shaft so hard that it turns too (like pliers with a pull cord on mine). When the shaft starts spinning on its own, the wedges are disengaged so that the bearing can spin freely on the shaft. Kind of like a ratcheting wrench.

I think maybe you spun the starter mechanism too hard and maybe the engine wasn't spinning very easy, so that it torqued the wedges onto the shaft hard enough to get stuck. Once again, I'm no expert but I know lots and lots about how lots and lots of stuff works. This is just a colorful insight since all I got to look at was the bearing itself and not the actual mechanism.

I did replace the ez-start with a pull start, but I ran about 2 gallons through the 2.5R and another 1-2 gallons through the OS 18TM I installed with that same OWB that was on it when I got it.

Although, you said the engine may have had issues, so the first thing I did when I got it was tear the engine apart and clean it. I took the carb down to bits and cleaned every part, but the OWB was stuck on the shaft. I had to pry it off with a screwdriver. I soaked it in DA for a few minutes and worked a paper towel soaked with DA in it for a few minutes and it loosened up. Then I oiled it with ARO and ran it. It froze up on me again about a gallon afterwards and I just took it back apart and cleaned it again. Then I would take it apart and clean it about every half gallon or so to avoid it ending a bash session by locking up. It lasted a good long while (about 3-4 gallons) before the little bearings fell out when cleaning it.
