Hey, I was wondering if there is some way that doesn't involve cutting the motor open that helps extend the motors life. Like on a gas engine, you make sure the piston is at BDC. Or putting ARO in. Is there any thing that you guys do to extend your motors life after every run(s)? Thanks.

The only thing that will help without cutting the comm and changing brushes would be to clean the comm after you are done running with a comm cleaning pen or electric motor cleaner.
Also some light oil in the bearings will help.
They sell an abrasive pen of small eraser looking thing that you can stick into the comm and spin the pinion gear to get the black off the comm.

how well does that improve the motor life? a lot?

It will keep the motor running well.
To fully maintain electric motors, you will need a comm lathe to cut the comm after it gets grooved or dirty beyond cleaning.
Then you will need to replace brushes.

Just go brushless.
Spend the money once.

I saw a brushless M-18 w/ lipo packs at the track.......holy crap....it outruns every road car out there.....
