Any Large Bird Owners?

You know what I can't stand... when people spend hundreds or thousands on a beautiful bird, then stuff it in a cage that can barely support it's wingspan. Randy, I know you're a bright fella, but please please do your research.

Oh by the way... see that lock B Miller has on that cage. You will need one of those. My bet is that cage originally came with a long rod that slipped through a couple eyelets in the cage to keep the door close. Even the Jenday conure I grew up with figured out how to pull it all the way out.

Yeah,I know quite a bit already about these animals. This is a long standing idea, not something new that just tickled my fancy. I had Parakeets and Cockatiels back in the early 90's then I was given a neglected and some what mean Green Cheek Conure. I started making some progress with it but it was short lived. I came home one night and my ex said she "accidentally" left the front door open and it got out.

It's okay. It was kinda obvious. My grandmother passed away recently and it was her bird. I was the only one in the family that was even willing to take him. So that is the cage he came with . I completely agree with you tho he does need a bigger one I just dont have the funds to drop 200+ bucks on him a nice one right now. No offense taken lessen was just letting you know the situation.

Understood. I was sort of under the impression you were not the original owner anyways.

From what I recall when I used to do a lot of reading on parrots, the general suggestion is the optimum cage width should be double the wingspan. Plus, that's only for single bird in the cage. Some people that don't know any better will put a pair of birds in a cage that's barely suitable for one.

some what mean Green Cheek Conure.

Heh.. I think Green Cheeks are nippy by nature. I had one when I was young. He was an entertaining little bugger but could be nippy. Jendays are generally timid and mine was also. She's actually still kickin. My mom still has her... since I was about 12 or 13 or something like that.

Be nice if you lived closer as I have a nice cage I would give you. My bird has the run of the house and he will not go hear a open door. He did one time and when I got him back in he went directly to his cage scared to death big wourld out there. Took a couple days for him to come out but he don't go near the doors.

Wow, I guess our cages were a little small by Lessen's standards, but still fairly large.....like 1 and a half their span. It didn't really matter anyway because they spent at least half the day out of the cage.

Thanks for the pics guys, now I want one!
