RC Driving Style
My two kids are 8 and 10 and are pretty good with basic battery powered rc cars and appear natural handlers at impressive speeds. They are now wanting to get into the nitro scene cause thats what their mates have got, and I'm all for it. However it appears to be a mine field. The Nitro off roaders are what appeals as they appear far more rasilient on the local parks. I think I prefer them to the Big trucks but what do I know.
The ones I've looked at so far are the Savage ss and 25, the Schumacher Menace, The Tmaxx, Some from HPI and I was just checking the new Revo which does look very nice.
The main things I want are reliability and strong bodyparts that can take the unavoidable knock or two. But gears and speed are one requirement the kids insist on.
I dont mind if its in kit form in fact that will probably be better and I'll be needing radio kits as well. (those with the wheel on and the pistol grip.
The kids will have to be waiting till Christmas for these so I have got a bit of time to find whats most suitable.
Any advice please.

get them a pair of savage 25s. they will love them. strong and fast out of the box. also get them a few bmx ramps to add to the glory on christmas morning.

I own two maxxes now.. or err one I bought, and enouhg parts to build another lol..even though I love my maxx, I'm going to have to say go savage.

The savage wasn't out when I got my t-maxx
I have only seen the Revo briefly in a magazine.
Since you have untill Christmas to figure it out, I would wait to take a good look at the Revo.

Personally, if the terrain doesn,t demand a monster truck, I have the most fun with my 1/8 buggy. It is alot more nimble, just as fast with one speed if not more, definatly better of the line, and best of all flies like an eagle.:2cents:

:buggy1: :redbuggy:

I'm going to go with savage too. I'm planning on getting one for my son aswell. But because these are for your kids I would do one thing first. Go to your local hobby store and see what they carry. If they dont carry anything for your savage(which I will doubt) dont get a savage. Get what they carry, so when they break stuff you can get them close by.

You should see how I get when I bash and break with no parts to fix. I can only imagine how an 8 or 10 year old will handle it. Especially if one breaks and the other bashes away.

Thanks for this advice I'm finding it very useful. I'd considered the possibility of having to replace broken parts but hadnt given it much thought about the availability from local model centres. Noop, I will definately bear that in mind where ever I end up.

My advice is with HYPED.

Get a Hotbodies lightning, fast and strong. A buggie will out perform a monster truck, and there quicker too.
Also strong.
ofna also make a good buggy that will be reasonable.
being that you have to get 2.

hmmm...outta that list of trucks, that have to be able to take a couple of hits....as much as i'd hate to say it you should go with the savage. My nieghbor smacked into a tree at almost top end and it kept going. He has the picco .26 too so it was hauling.

just something to keep in mind, a nitro goes a lot faster then one of those toy electric cars u get at a regular store. Also it takes a lot more cash to keep these things going.

I like my t-maxx but i have put a lot of cash in it to get it to the point of where i like it. the new Revo looks awsome, a totally re designed T-maxx. The savage is a bit bigger then the t-maxx, but from what i have heard, its better then the t-maxx.

The Savage would be my suggestion when considering the up keep of two at the same time. I have not owed one but some of my friends own them and they'll take much more punishment than anyone of my T Maxxes would before breaking, that is in stock form. I believe the SS comes in a kit if you are looking to build them. Another well built truck would be the MGT. Check out the forums here on both makes. You'll find a lot of answers to your questions.

My friend drove his Monster gt of a roof sunday.
They got a ladder, put the truck on the roof and punched it.
It fell 17 feet and didn't land to pretty.
all that happened was a split gas tank.
that thing is solid.
but i dont have one so......
thats my 2 cents

why did he drive it off a roof? theres gotta be something better to do than that, maybe like a quarter pipe or something. c'mon now if you're gonna break it atleast have fun. how much room is there to drive it on your roof? then it just goes straight down. lol just messin with ya but really why off the roof?

I'd have to suggest the savage as well, since I am a maxx only owner. If your planning on letting kids operate the thing, it should be a little more bullet proof out of the box.

Also, if your thinking about going 1/8buggy, just remember that they don't sit very high off the ground. So if your going to be playing in lawn, a monster truck is really the only way to go.
