I was running powermaster 20% nitro, 16% oil. I broke in the XTM with it, its just what I was given I had no idea.

I since pruchased some trinity monster horsepower. It's 20% nitro, 12% oil.

After reading a lot of posts on fuel here, I'm begining to wonder.

Will running the trinity horsepower with only 12% oil make my engine run hotter, then say a fuel with 14%-16% in it?

Will only runing 12% oil shorten the life of my engine?

I just want the motors to last I have no problem sacrificing alittle power for longevity, as long as it will tune well. I have two boys, and a couple of nitros. I can't justify Purchasing new motors every 1.5 gallons.

The 12% should run a little hotter than the 14-16%. Can't say exactly how much hotter, but a little hotter.

As for engine longevity, the lower the lube...the shorter the life. Does that mean that your engine is gonna crap out tomorrow? Probably not. I'd say you might see the life shortened by a gallon or two. But then again hardcore bashing and poor maintenance can shorten it substantially more.

Define hard core bashing on a motor. What precautioins should I take when I'm out jumping and such.

As for maintenence I use ARO, check for BDC and let it cool inside.

Things way worse than I have ever imagined. The maintenance is almost as important as your oil content. I'll generally run either Blue Thunder 30% or Trinity 30% both having 12% oil and my engines are still running strong. +/- each of my engines I have about 6 gallons of fuel and are still going strong. I must say I am absolutely hell on the pull starts but that's probably from being a mook.

Heh, yeah pullstarts bite. Should a guy let the motor cool after running a tank?
I have a pavement strip with a speed bump. I usually go full throttle, jump the bump (150ft), return full throttle jump a small ramp. Just doing loops.

Damn I wish their were some nitro people around here. This stuff would be Sooo easy to learn if it was hands on.

Thanks for being patient with me, a lot of good info, and I really appreciate it.

**edit** If I hadn't had this board I would run it like my weedeater, hold the trigger down, jog through the weeds, fill up the tank and repeat lol.

Actually you are learning hand's on. I try to let my rc's cool before running them again. Generally I will run a tank of fuel in one of my rc's then switch to another rc for a tank of fuel. I also may take some pics or video between my runs.

I have a nice camera with video/audio. I should take a few vids now and then, show you guys what I do. I'll also start giving my motors a rest between runs.

BTW temp gun, Rat Shack 34.99 too dark now but no more guessing.

When breaking a new engine in or when an engine has less than a gallon into it, I shut it down between tanks. After I hit a gallon, I run it for an hour or so if something doesn't break first. Last summer, I ran my xxx-nt with an OS 15 cv-r(x) in it for about 3-4 hours straight without shutting down, then ran it again after lunch for about another 3-4 hours. That was a good day. At the time, the engine had about 4 gallons through it. I've run 2 gallons through it since and it's still a screamer.

oils aren't always equel. Fuel is tricky and use can always compare numbers exactly. Synthetic to Castor ratio is a big deal, and some fuels have more additives than that. Run you engine a little rich, pay close attention to int's cleanlyness, use quality glow plugs and fule, use ARO and it will last you a long time and peform well.
