Way to go Hawk....now if you folks have ever read my posts you knows that my spelling sucks and sometimes my dry sense of humor is lost in translation.

But I am using Firefox now for spelling, and well if you don't get what I am saying it is the nuances of the live version you are missing. Nicely handled response to Jeff above, you have obliviously done some parenting...!!!

Thanks for your contribution here.

I have three teenage boys and we are going thru this now in the house....no slang at the dinner table....use complete sentences, say what you mean , let your yes be yes and your no be no, that sort of ting.

Anyway take care,

Mike

No kids, Just raised by 2 wonderful parents who raised a son and 3 daughters...All seem to have turned out ok....except me maybe....lol. I spend my days as a Support Services Administrator for folks with Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. My current focus is ensuring that folks that receive medicaid services are getting what the gov't is paying for as well as the care they deserve!!! I have been in the field for 14 years and throughout that time have learned the right and wrong way to communicate with folks...The lessons I have learned go far beyond the things I do for my job everyday. I appreciate the compliment, it means a lot coming from someone who is a parent....

Take Care,

Hawk

I should probably use firefox too...especially since I opened my big mouth.....:)

Firefox browser with the spell check add-on is a posters best friend. Underlines each misspelled word in red after you type it.

Just what I was going to say! I absolutely love the built-in spell checker in Firefox 2. It has actually made my spelling better. Since I use it soo often, I see where I make a mistake, fix it, make a metal note of it. Then I usually never spell that word wrong again out in the "real-world." Yes Word has has spell-checker forever, but I rarely ever use it...I use notepad the most often...takes ZERO time to load, and is perhaps a developer's best friend. :) I don't consider myself a developer necessarily, but I do my fair share of html and php editing in notepad...

SO AGAIN THE TEENAGERS GET THE BLAME!!!

Sorry but it always seems whenever there is a problem, or bad posts on a forum immediatley teenagers are blamed.
I am 15 and only write like that on msn as i know alot of adult's dont understand it. To be honest though i don't think you should be making threads like this (i know i will get a lot of people dis-agreeing) but we talk how we want to. It's a free country and I'm sure you probably talked like that and did stupid things when you were a teenager. I honestly can't see why it's dis-respectful. I bet half the people on here send text messages with writing like that, so why not post on forums with it?

Ok buddy, it is a free country, with freedom of speech and all of that, but seriously, this forum does not have to put up with that kind of stuff. I am close to your age, and I used to write like that, but I realized, it doesn't do anything for you in the REAL world!!! :violin:

Hey Jeff,

Congrats for sticking up for yourself. I am glad you have the guts to stand up for yourself. However, what was so hard about taking the time to type out the post that you did?.....It looks fine to me! Chances are you are probably wrong about the text message thing especially with those members in the working world...

With the exception of this thread, I always give teenagers the "benefit of the doubt"...Especially those that have chosen a hobby like this one, where some thought, responsibility and know-how is involved. Its a far cry from spending 12 hours a day in front of a TV Set or a video game. I am happy to see it.

However, while it is your right to "type" or "talk" the way you want to...It is also the "right" of each an every member on this board to "ignore" posts that are just too darn difficult to read, let alone understand....it is also their right to let you know about it....That "freedom" you are talking about goes BOTH ways!!! Anyway, I really do appreciate your mature response to this....

Take Care,

Hawk

thanks for not having a rant (that's what i was expecting). Anyway as i said i don't write slang on forums or else i miss out on some of the really talented people in RC replying to my thread because they can't read it. I know it's freedom of speech and i know it goes both ways all I'm trying to say is, don't put all of us in the same boat, just because we're teenagers dosn't mean we are all stupid mindless idiot's who would rather spend their money on ciggarettes and beer than have a hobby, and can't write/type properly.

By the way my name is dan, my dad made the account a while ago to find out some information (which, thanks to all the great and talented people on here, he did). Could i get the name changed or not?

Again thanks for being understanding, and i know what you mean about the writing i read (well tried) RevoME's writing and it was pretty hard to read i didn't understand most of it

Send a PM to WoodiE and ask him about changing your using name.

Slang has its proper place but this internet forum is not the place for it.

Information is exchanged here. That is the primary intent of this forum and its founders. We have users of all ages and from all parts of the world. It is a necessity that all people reading this information understand it. The reason that the younger people get the bad attention for using slang is for the fact that they are the ones using it. The majority of the users here didn't grow up using I'm and internet slang therefore dont post their thoughts using it.

We are not asking for perfect English skills nor do we expect it. What we do ask is that everyone make an attempt to have their posts be readable by everyone on the forum not just people that know how to read and decipher slang. If you choose to use slang, you will not be welcome here and should find another forum that better suites your communication style.
