O didn't know the headers were crap lol. I was going to get the TM and a Trinity pipe, but I decided to sell it to olds and get into onroad. Olds, your money went towards a RS4 3 18SS lol.

At least my $ didn't go towards weapons of mass destruction! Kind of cool that my dough went to another HPI product... I really do like my savage.

You got PM!

My Two Cents:

The throttle set-up is adequate at best and the TRS is wayy to tight. Nice redo on your linkage Olds. I haven't got around to re-doing mine.

Stock headers are junk...like jet mech said "everybody I know running the stocker has broke it"...I had a buddy at the track break two in one day...then we went "Olds" cut off a T-Maxx header I had in the box added two couplers and a couple of hose clamps and he was leading the B when it came apart.

The Trinity pipe and header RULE!!!!...they really bring the TRX 2.5 to life...kinda pricey at $70 bucks...but a nice up when cash permits!!

I'm exciited about you having one of these Olds....It will definately get a true "Test Drive"

I have a "Beat" Stock Header ....PM your address and I'll send it out to ya for Christmas.....like I said it's beat but good to have in the box to keep ya going on bash day!!!

Mr T

I tried messing with a t-maxx header I had that was seriously abused, but I couldn't see a way to "massage" it to work.

I called 3 LHS's and drove an hour one way to pick the only one up I could find... I'm sure that will be broken by the end of tomorrow...

I really appreciate the offers guys! Both MyJeep and Mr T-Maxx!

I was looking at the setup after installing the new header today and it just screams "not totally thought out" by traxxas. It would make sense if the exhaust pipe was mounted more securely than it is, but as it is mounted, it wants to move. Considering there is only 2mm of clearance between the header and pipe when mounted, that doesn't leave a lot of silicone for the only point of give.

So, I put my think'n cap on and decided what it needed was a spring instead of bolts holding the header onto the engine. After digging through my junk, I found an o-ring I bought at the hardware store that was about 1mm thick. It fit over the exhaust outlet perfectly. Just snug enough to fit will. Then, I made a couple of divets in the header on the ears by where the bolts should be and mounted a typical header spring. So, now I have a decent seal between the header and engine, and the header has more give. If you push on the exhaust, the whole thing flex's now. Hopefully, this will seal well enough and give me the extra mobility it really needs.

If it works, it works. If it doesn't, well... there's always the trinity pipe you guys are talking about for a permanent fix. It's held on to the engine with a spring isn't it? Your talking about this one right? http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXKAJ6&P=7

To bad I can't just buy the header...

I've read to cut off the flange so that when you have an impact your header doesn't hit the pipe. It also adds low end power. If you want more info on that check the traxx boards, search header or soemthjing like that.

Yeah that's the pipe. It is obnoxiously loud though. I hated it, so much so, I sold it after two races. Traxxas has a tuned pipe out, I saw it the other day but to be honest I don't remember if there was a header in the bag or not. I like your creativity with the spring, it should help with the flex. Check out the Tekno wing mount, easiest mount to use and you don't have to mod anything. The wing will hep protect your read end.

Yep!!!

If you have noise ordinances where you are running this is not the pipe to have....bad dog is LOUD!!!!

Mr T

Trinity Inline pipe. Yup it is loud. :D

By the way, anyone need Tekno Wing Mount? I got some with me.

what pipe are you guys talking about? I'm lost!
The Trinity is what I was talking about. I have heard from others the THS isn't as bad though I have not actually heard the pipe with my own ears. The Traxxas pipe is rumored to be pretty close to the Trinity in terms of annoying.

Ummm... yeah... I run the HPI ribbed pipe on my savage. I doubt it's louder than that. Personally, I don't care about how loud it is, just so that it's more durable than the stock header/pipe setup.

Thanks for the info though.

Olds' style :D

Got your addy and will mail you the header tomorrow.

It's for winter running to keep the temps up. Rubber inner tube seems to work better than just wrapping the head with foil or aluminum flashing. The innertube keeps temps around 200 or so when it's 20-30 degrees outside. It also keeps it from cooling off too fast if/when the engine dies.
I ran my last winter and plan to again this winter, is this something I should do as well? Last year I always pulled it in the heated garage to take the temps..(Still running) The coldest temps Id probably run in would be around the 10 degree mark (Colder than that, I'm in the house, probably in here..lol). I'm not doing to heavy of bashing, basically just playing in the snow, and ripping in the driveway.

For me, the engines just seem to run better this way in the winter. Yesterday, it was 20 degrees out. With the rubber thing on my head, I was getting plenty of smoke and the engine was running at 207.

Well, I went out again today... even after installing the spring, a HD coupler and cutting about 1/4 inch off the header, I still had problems. After my 2nd 4 foot jump (at least I'm getting higher), the coupler ripped. But the header is still good.

So, I came home, aggrivated and thought up something new. I built a little shelf out of flat steel for the exhaust to rest on. I also ziptied the exhaust to it so it could move at all. I put a layer of rubber on the shelf so there wouldn't be any metal to metal vibrations. Then I got everything lined up. I still am using the spring instead of bolts for the header. I'm not using my super heavy duty re-inforced silicone hose for a coupler and I took it out again. Two hours later, with numb hands, feet and face, I came home happy! No more header problems, coupler problems or exhaust problems. I did loose the rubber stinger extender, but I didn't notice it until I got home... but regardless, the revo made it through 2 hours of pretty heavy bashing without anything else failing on me.

Here's a pic of the finished product:

ok, so where can I get the plastic dip and I'm not exactly too sre on how to do it so could some one help me out. thanks guys

Not sure what stores you have up your way as far as home improvement but something like Lowes, Home Depot, Menards usually carry it. Sometimes you can find it at an auto parts store. It's a simple process, basically you take your servo, I held mine by the output shaft and the wiring. And you slowly lower it up to the output shaft and about an inch or two up the wires. Hold it for a couple seconds, then slowly raise it back up and then hang it to dry. Usually pretty well set up in about 4 hours. Trim any extra around your mounting tabs and re-install. As far as the rx, just stick it in a balloon and zip tie the end.

I dunk the whole thing by dangling it in the can by holding onto the servo wire. Then I take an exacto knife and gently cut a circle around the servo horn and peel it off like an orange.

Here's a link for the stuff: http://www.garage-toys.com/streamlinedistribution/plastidipblack.html
I bought mine at the hardware store for $13 for the same can listed here... bastages!

Be careful with the can. I was totally exhausted the other night and wanted to dip a second coat on my servo around 1am before going to bed. I bumped the can with my elbow and plasti-dipped my chest and it ran down my crotch... thank god I was wearing pants! Also thank god my wife suggested I put an area rug under my work area... or we wouldn't ever see our rental deposit!
