I'm wondering if there are generic aluminum parts that can be purchased?

I know I cheaped out but I'm not looking to race, just something to chase the dog around the yard with so I purchased this. http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6032771216&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&rd=1

I was already warned that it looked like alot of plastic in there but since I put my bid in already I couldn't do anything about it.

Anyway my story is that I broke 2 universal joints and I want to replace them with aluminum ones. (pics below) Also if someone could tell me the brand of the vehicle I'd apreciate it. (power racing??)

Sorry for crappy cell phone pics.

Looka like a cheapie clone of a T-Maxx.I have no idea if the parts from a T-Maxx will fit, possible. But you would have to check with a local hobby shop.

Also if the stock T-maxx parts fit you just go for the more durable alloy ones.Just be careful as if you ask for alloy parts they may cost more than your truck and fast.

The standard T-maxx ones should be way stronger than these copies.

Any links to sites that sell parts like this?

as monstercowpower stated ... go to your local hobby shop and make sure the t-maxx parts will fit before ordering a bunch of parts online and being mad that they don't fit your truck.

Well, if you have a ruler, you can measure the shafts to see if t-maxx parts will in fact fit.

These are the ones from the maxx that go into the trans output drives

The maxx output drive is a 5mm shaft with flat spots on the ends

These are the shafts that connect and go to the front/rear diffs

These are u-joints that go onto the diffs front/rear

Oh... and if you measure all that stuff, you could try buying cvd's if they will fit: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDXN8&P=7

To be honest though, with the stock engine in the maxx, I never really had a problem using traxxas plastic shafts.

Thank you very much! The 1st 4 links look identical to what I need. At least this can get me back and running. I'll measure my parts to make sure the drive shaft length though.

I just had a brain fart last night and I took the 2 joints from the front wheels and put them on the drive shaft. At least this gets me running in RWD.

Can you get these parts in aluminium anywhere?

Not that I know of. At least not without going for a full cvd/u-joint axle replacement. There are many brands of those for the t-maxx. But then the "cup" is steel as well as the rest of the axle.

OK, Thanks.

Another question... I think I've figured out why they broke, the clutch is messed. When I try to pull start it the wheels want to spin. I now have a site that sells stock parts for this truck but does anyone know if another stronger clutch will work?

you purchased an "off brand" so it's gonna hard to find anyone else serious into the hobby that has experience w/ this exact truck.....to me it looks exactly like a T-maxx copy as well.....like was mentioned before, your best bet is to bring it (partially disassembled) to your Local Hobby Shop (LHS) an dsee if they can test some parts for you........

What's the link for the site? My guess would be that most t-maxx clutches may work with minimal problems. But without seeing the parts and stuff in hand, it's hard to say...

From what I've found it has all the stock parts I need but then again it's all the plastic stuff that's breaking anyway. http://www.rseetoys.com/

It might be worth the few $ to try the traxxas stuff. I never had a problem when the t-maxx was stock with the axles.

I'm going to take it to the local hobby shop here (if you want to call it that) and see what they say. Thanks for the help folks, I'm definately further ahead now than I was. I'll keep you updated with what does/doesn't work for the next uninformed noob that buys one of these.

Well my lhs carries quite a bit of t-maxx parts, I'm happy about that. I do have a quick question about the clutch shoes however.

I took the clutch apart and the original shoes are just plastic, they burnt out and now they are in the shape of an oval. Obviously they need to be replaced. I found the t-maxx clutch shoes here and they have the same configuration (2 shoes, same size hole for pins) but the diameter is slightly smaller. Just my educated guess is this will work but it will just take a higher rpm to engage or is this totally off and not work at all? Ideas?

You should be fine. If you find you have problems, try compairing your clutch bell to a traxxes clutch bell to see if the bell housing is larger/smaller. If the traxxas bell is smaller and looks like it will fit otherwise, buy it and try it.

But I'd think you should be fine. Maybe a few more RPM's will be needed, but I can't believe it would be much. They may just look smaller because they aren't deformed like yours are...

Lol that may be true, but I'll try it. Thanks.

Well the Traxxas transmission yolks and differential yolks work perfect. The drive shafts are different but what I've done is just cut down Traxxas axles which work fine to. I keep breaking U-joints but so far it's only the original ones breaking. Pretty sad when I replace these with stock parts from another truck and they are 100x stronger.

The only issue I still have is the one on page 1, the clutch shoes that I replaced are a little smaller and it is taking fairly high revs to launch. Since my accel. is piss poor I'm thinking this would be the problem? If I got a clutch bell that was for the Traxass (which I'm sure will fit) would this help? Also the only clutch bells that I see at my lhs are 15tooth or lower. The stock one I have now is 20. Is there a major issue going to a lower tooth clutch bell?

Yes... the truck will move slower. Do you have a photo of your spur? I'm guessing it's probably the same pitch as the traxxas t-maxx pitch. I never saw anything below an 18T for the t-maxx (32 pitch) that traxxas made. You might be looking at the revo clutch bells which are 1M pitch like 1/8 scale buggies/trucks.

This is the stock bell for the t-maxx 2.5.

No picture of the spur gear but I can take one if it will help. The stock t-maxx 20t clutch bell looks right. I'm just starting to wonder if I got the wrong shoes for it.
