Can anyone advise me on the best buggy to buy around at the moment? I've got about $1000 to spend. I've been looking at the MBX5 pro-spec or the x-ray. Any opinions on which is best??

What are you gunna use it for?

Another thing is if you're gunna get either one of those you may need more than 1000. About 700$ for the kit, 300$ for an engine, 100$ radio, 100-150$ on servos etc. etc.... It really adds up. You could take a look at the Inferno 777. Its 449.99$ for the kit which gives you a little more leeway for others things you'll need.

You can talk to CorradoPsi about the X-Ray, he has one and he spent somwhere around 1600$ on it I think.

Yes he did,and it FLYS around the track.Very nice buggy. Like he said what are you using it for?

$1,000 might be pushing it on the XB8 and Pro-spec, I have already spent over a grand for an XB8 that I will be building and I still have not bought tires and servos yet. As the others have said it would help if you let us know what you plan on doing with it, bashing/racing?

Should contact Bruce at RushRC or Hirez. Both on this forum.

mmm, Xray GOOOOOOOOOD. it drives like a dream. the $$$$ of mine was up there because i didnt skimp on anything. actual prices i paid (keep in mind some of this i got at cost) engine 290, pipe 60, tires 40, servos 115 (normally 180), radio-3PM/no servos 90 (normally 120), HRS receiver 40 (higher frame rate and built in failsafe), XB8 619, paint 10. this is what i can remember anyway, i spent a lot more because i have like 4 sets of different tires mounted and ready to go, 2 pipes to choose from, and a whole lot of spare parts. cost of extra stuff about 270

I will be using it for bashing. I've got the engine pipe radio gear wheels and all the rest so the $1000 is what I've got to spend on the kit.

normslly double the price of the kit and that will give you a farely base setup, kit engine raio servos etc, i would recomend either of the mbx5 prospec or the X-Ray, both briliant buggies, X-Ray has a bit more fruit on it with its cam system.

Hotbodies Lightning2..... :smoke:
Their great for bashing as they are very robust and the engine requires little tunning... And you have the choice of hopping it up to pro spec at a later date if you want to start racing..
Cheers Andy

OK if you have $1000 just for the kit, see what your LHS carries for parts and buy that buggy. The only problem with the Xray is NO stateside parts availibilty. You could take your extra $$$ and buy all the spares you will need like PSI did. I havent driven the Prospec, but I just drove PSI's Xray.......WOW.

dont forget about the regular mbx5 buggy.... it could be had for under 500 these days... if it were my money, though..... Id get the xray

I'm still putting together my Prospec, and I have to say it is a very nice buggy. Probably too nice for bashing IMO. I'll second the Lightning, as I have a Pro 2, and it is a pretty tough buggy. Unless your failsafe fails, and it goes wide open into a tree, but I think that would have broken any buggy. Lightning is kinda hard to get the Pro 2 parts sometimes. I haven't seen the Xray, except in a mag. My vote would be for a non-Prospec MBX-5. It is a hell of a buggy, and if you ever wanted to uprade it there are parts from alot of different companies to choose from.

I've never had any problems getting hold of parts from Hotbodies for the lightning2 it may be a different story the other side of the water.. I wouldant of thought that the Lightning2pro would break much cos its alot more rienforced that the lightning2
Cheers Andy

Thanks for all of your replies. I think I'm going to go with the prospec.Going to order it now

You won't be disapointed. Good choice. Wait untill you see those Prospec parts in person. They are kind of a gun metal grey with a hint of green. Awsome!
