Advice for a newbie

Hello all

Who can advise me on which car to go for
I've raced 1/10th scale electrics fairly seriously a few years back - so I understand the basics

What I'm after is a flashy 'toy' !! to tear up fields / woodlands - Don't want to get into racing again - It takes over your life

I'd like a 4WD 1/8th scale buggy.
Want it to be 'viciously' quick ...(I'm thinking a .26 engine ??)
Must handle decently.
Must be cost effective and have good spares availability - Sure I could buy a kanai MP7.5, but I wanted to avoid a 2nd mortgage.
Want it to be in kit form so that I can build it up from scratch - For me that's half the fun.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated - There's just a bewildering number of items on the market and I dont want to buy a dud and wish i'd never bothered.

What he said or the new Jammin buggy,or a GS Storm pro. What does your LHS carry? V-spec motor is GREAT!!!! A little pricy for a basher,but worth it for a .21

if you really want a 1/8th buggy i'd go with:
ofna hyper 7 pcr or pbs
mugen mbx5 (or 4)
or lightning pro 2

these are good buggies and have parts readily available just about anywhere

but it sounds like you wanna rutt up some bashing spots and if i were you i'd look into the new traxxas revo....its a truck but its awsome for the price and way more fun to bash with that the 1/8th buggies....and a little less maintenance to keep

A cost effective kit buggy is hard to find these days. I would suggest an X-Terminator for you, yes they are pre-built but they are cheap and they have a very powerful engine, the XTM 24.7. Just my opinion.

Yeah, building is fun. The downside is that you'll have to buy the whole buggy a la cart. When you go to the hobby shop to get all the required parts, you should drop by the bank first for that second mortgage. Even the cheapest set of equipment (engine, pipe, radio, servos) is going to easily out weigh the cost of the kit.

I'm also not saing RTR is a good idea. Yeah, you get the whole package for not much money, but you're left with a huge list of things to upgrade. In the long run, most people spend more money total on the RTR as opposed to going kit built to start.

My advice to you is this: If you don't have ~1.5 grand to build a nice kit, don't get into 8th scale. It's a real money pit.

As for what to get (if you want to proceed), that's up to you. If you like the Kanai's, get one.

I agree, RTRs are pretty attractive to someone on limited budget but they are to a point a bit of a rip, there normally the base line machine, with tons of upgrades required for a strong reliable chassis, they come with crap radio gear and crap engines,
if your going to buy a buggy do it right the first time, mbx5prospec, kanai III, 777, XRAY XB8, cause in the long run it will save you money, and anyway whats wrong with a second morgage, just send the wife out to work so you can play
