  1. Bashing
I am considering buying the savage xl. I know the parts are strong but if I am running it at full speed and all out bashing will screws start falling of and little parts start breaking or engine mount will fly off and you will end up.dragging the engine on the road.

And also if I do buy it what spare parts should I buy with the truck.

Thanks

As with any kit, you'll need to blue loc-tite any metal to metal fasteners, and just give the kit a general 'once over'(shimming, fluids, gear mesh, etc). The XL is a touh beast. Don't waste money on buying upgrades just yet. Run the thing and figure out what breaks and what doesn't. Just replace stuff as it breaks. Stay away from the Integy aluminum trap! :)

It's different for everyone really. I would recommend installing the 'roll hoop/ engine protector' right away. Other than that just replace with stock plastic or RPM stuff if it breaks.

Servos, all RTRs could use better servos but from what I've heard the Savages are known for their servos having a short lifespan. Savox servos are great, the 1230SG should handle steering with what ever size tires you throw on it, 500 oz for $75.

Complete package!

Does the engine roll bar come with the RTR

Hi JohnSampson,
Yes, you will receive a bunch of spare parts in bags of the respective parts on plastic cards, similar to what model cars are assembled from.
The engine protective roll cage assembly is included within one of those bags.
You will have to attach it yourself, if it is like mine was.
I only had to purchase the hpi Wheelie Bar. Which was fun to assemble and put on the car, by the way.

edit; I had said Roll Bar, I meant Wheelie Bar! Sorry about that.

Enjoy your eventual purchase/s!! Smile It does become addictive/habit forming.
Ah, & you can tell "Her" I said, Yeah, but it's good clean healthy fun.

Hi, Eh, you're welcome bud.
Some guys even buy the girl friend/wife a nice RC car, usually electric...
That way they are cohorts...

The problem with these servos is they are 9mm taller than the stock servos so installing them would mean dremeling out the bottom of your reciever case. For $99 bucks you can get this Savox servo that if memory serves will fit and has 416oz/in of torque.

Actually the roll bar/engine head protector that comes with the XL will not fit. It's for the 4.6 which is about 2 inches shorter. Don't ask me why they didn't include the right one or why they put the one for the 4.6 in the box. I had to order one from ebay. Also the HPI wheelie bar is junk in my opinion. I put one on mine and it still flipped backwards on it's lid. I use a Traxxas T-MAXX wheelie bar and ziptie it to the back bumper. Sounds hack I know but it works rather well.
