know that this probably should be in the electric general or whatever, but I am considering getting the new e maxx this summer so that I can drive something in the fall and winter.

The owner at my lhs is an electic guru, and I asked him if you get more or less runtime with a 7 cell or a 6 cell pack (I've only used 6 cell packs), or if you just get more power. He said that you get less runtime, and more power, and that I should just stick with 6 cell packs for all of my vehicles (because it provides a good balance of power and runtime). So I am asking, is what he said true? If it is, I'll probably get some more 6 cell packs if I get an e maxx, because I've gotten used to the long runtimes that you get with nitro.

I just dont want to spend the extra bones on loose smc -7cells and get my lhs guy to build them into packs if it wont be much differant from the smc e maxx dual 6 cell 3600 package. Speaking of that, woud it be better to get 1 pair of good smc 7 cell packs, or 1 pairs of those 6 cell 3600 packs? I dont want to spend a ton on an e maxx (if I get it) because it will pretty much be only for the rainy season/days. When it is dry, I will run my Savage X SS

Thanks everyone, you guys rule :)

Oh, and sorry about the long post

I know you get more power, just not sure about the runtime thing. I would stick with a 6-Cell because my friend had a 7 cell and he kept snapping parts.

I am a good driver, and I am not hard on my vehicles, so I dont think that would be a problem, unless you are talking about drivelines and gears. But with the 3905 e maxx, I dont think that would be a problem either:)

The owner of the shop is spot-on. Whenever you have higher voltage flow, you're going to have decreased sustainable duration (ie; runtime). It won't be very drastic; on the order of about 5%, give or take.

You can get the Venom 5000 mah 6 cell packs on ebay for around 50 bucks with shipping. From what I understand, they provide about twice the runtime of the 3000 mah batteries. I've got a couple on the way, once they get here I'll let you know how they do.

I have been running electric for along time and the only difference I have ever noticed running a 6 cell verses a 7 cell is that the 7 cell will be faster if they are the same compacity your run time will be about the same...i have the 6 cell verion of these and they have been great packs for my e maxx with a brushless novak 6.5 hv set up http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXRUG4&P=7 ..

Yeah, I meant some things in the driveline. I believe they were plastic shafts, but they were plastic. If you were going to go with 7 cell, I would upgrade anything that has to do with the engine to titanium or aluminum.

THIS GOES TO ALL-------------------------

So are you saying that I should go with 7's or 6's? I'm kinda confused now because it seems like everyone has something different to say:constipat. Also, I have smc ib cells for my other electrics, and my lhs deals with smc. I went to the smc website and they stopped using ib cells; now they use enerG cells. Has anyone heard of these cells or used them? Also, I noticed that my lhs also carries a lot of reedy wolf packs; would they be good? They only go up to 3600 mah so Idk.

Thanks

The choice is ultimately up to you. Do you want more speed? Are you racing? If racing, does the class you are running in allow 6 or 7 cells?

Answer those, and then look for the highest mah rating you can afford.

Those questions should help guide you to your desired pack.

ok, thanks. I would not be racing, but more power for not a lot of cost is good....so I'll keep asking around. Thanks guys, for the help:yes:

What you didnt say is what type of Emaxx. 14.4 or 16.8 volt. 7 cell are 8.4 volts and 2 of those will kill the EVX2 speedie. Not to mention standard Emax battery hold downs wont accomodate 7 cell, unless its a low amp rating, (short batteries as opposed to 6 cell flat, 1 in the middle).

I'm talkin' E maxx 16.8:yes:

Actully you can run 7 cells in a old e maxx they have special configuration that allows it but I still wouldn't run it with the old e maxx esc. I have 2 3300 mah nimh 7 cell packs that I run in my e maxx w/ novak hv brushless 6.5system...

The Max Amps 4700 7 cell pack give about 20 minutes of run time in the 16.8V (new) E-max. Tons of power and runs great. I would say the 7 is the way to go.

upgrade it to brushless w/ 2 hi mah 7 cell packs and you will get longer run times, virtully no maintenance, and more power and speed and all of that = more fun!!! and posibly broken parts if you can't control it LOL!!! its all about throtle control, good luck!!!
