What is with the color compounds? They are all black to me. :D
 
just different types of rubber. Whites are the softest Rovers, blues are alot firmer, dont do near as good in most situations. The pinks are HELLA STICKY but they didnt do a good job on the tread (too much imo) so they kinda suck.
 
Independent research is showing the Rover whites winning by quite a margin. I found them on sale too for $14.99 with the foams for a pair. Hmm... :D

Seems weird that they sell them in twos; being four-wheel drives, you'd think all four would have to be replaced. I guess some mix and match front/rears though, huh?

If you want a great all around tire that works well in basically all conditions get your self a couple of pairs of white dot Rovers, you will be glad you did, they just plain work. maybe go with a F400 foam up front with about 4oz of lead weight wrapped around the outside of each front wheel, the stick on weights for 1:1 cars work the best and can be picked up at a tire store, some will charge you some will just give them to you, I took a tire and wheel with me to show them what I was using it for and they just gave it to me at Pep Boys, I do not run any weight in the rear so that it is easy to get the rear to pop up over things and it also helps to keep the rear from wanting to dig in and flip you over on vertical climbs, as for the rear foam I think SNG already said it, but a half a stock Rover foam wrapped around the outside of another stock Rover foam works well in the rear.

And yes some do mix and match front and rear tires, but it is not real common, more common is different front and rear wheels which are also sold in pairs, generally you will see lighter wheels in the rear and heavier in the front, also a narrow wheel between .7" and 1" wide have also become the norm, at least in the comp rigs, that will be my next upgrade.

Dont forget too that I said the stock rover foams suck so you will have to get new foams or make some custom foams out of them and your old foams.
I've ran all the main comp tires and alot and bossclaws do have the best traction and side hilling of any tire out there, they are better than rovers in almost all aspects plus their foams are really good. But they do cost alot more.

I looked and read and read and looked some more and ended up going with the white dots. seems to be about a 50/50 split between those who feel the stock foams are too soft and those who say they love them. i dunno. lots go with proline stage 2 foams or nova's.

everyone who says they roll the Boss Claws say they work like nobody's business, but I think they look kinda lame lol. i dunno, there is something about them...

I'm sure eventually i will have tried 4 different tires anyhow. i'm just taking this thing one step at a time and trying to upgrade the rig slowly so i don't go broke. :D

of course, now that i bought tires last night i have 25.00 to spend at A-main. I wonder what the heck I should get? :)
 
Maybe some better lower links that will not flex as much, or a integy 35 turn lathe motor? just a couple ideas.
 
Now, the lower the number, the faster the motor yes? I'm liking the 55t for crawling, but not 100% sure on all the differences.
 
The higher the turns, the more torque the motor has and the lower speed the motor turns.
 
Sweet yup, 55 turn is for me. :D

Yeah 55T is slower and you will tend to break less stuff that way, and when your starting out in crawling it is a good place to start, but there are also disadvantages to a slower motor, and going to a 35 or 45 turn motor is not going to make it go 20mph but it will help to give you the extra wheel speed you need sometimes to get up things that just can't be crawled slowly and need it, it is also a huge help when you get upside down in a comp and you are trying to right your rig with out touching it and avoiding a 5 point penalty, 55T motors generally are just to slow to help with these things, I started with a 55t and 6 cell 7.2v NiMh battery and now run a 35t and a 3cell 11.1v LiPo battery and would never go back, there are just way to many times where the wheel speed helps and in a shafty comp rig it is pretty much the norm.
 
Yeah a 45 or 35t is the way to go, 55 is way to slow especially on anything under 11.1v lipo.
 
So how come the lipos are so much better? That is a relatively new term for me. :X

They are smaller for the same mah, which on a crawler is very important. More volts can be had also while keeping the physical size small, they last longer, just everything about them is better, its a night and day difference but dont worry about them yet, you will need to upgrade your electronics first/at the same time.
 
Another other plus for lipo batteries is they can be purchased usually for less then a nimh pack of the same capacity and they also lighter weight. the 3 cell lipos I run cost me about $66 shipped for 4 of them.
