RC Driving Style
  1. Bashing
This afternoon I was out driving my relatively new mini MGT and all of the sudden I noticed that it had bad traction and would spin out easily, and sure enough upon inspection the front wheels no longer had power going to them. My question is, what is wrong and how to fix it? the drive shaft is not broken so I assume it is the front, or possibly center diff. Is there a way to check what the problem is or do I have to start tearing it apart?

Process of elimination, you'll have to look closely with it running, just don't get a mouthful of nitro exhaust.;)

Well I have been tinkering with it and it is defiantly the front differential. From what I have researched the diffs in these trucks suck and basically need to be degreased, shimmed, and then use silicone diff fluid instead of grease. Hopefully my gears aren't already toast but it seem like either associated trucks are poorly built or I just got a lemon model because it has been nothing but trouble since day one. Thanks for the tips though and wish me luck!

The only mini rc's that I have owned that actually held up were the mini Revo and mini Slash, and both of them were brushless. I tried Losi and Associated mini's and both sucked! They didn't perform well and broke pretty much every time I ran them.

yeah, I definitely should have sprung for a savage, its bigger, better, tougher, more parts, etc... but at least when I eventually get one I will know what I am doing, and how to work on it thanks to my problematic mini MGT.

Never owned the mini but I have the MGT 4.6 When I first got it I thought it was the biggest piece of junk even made. Its unfortunate but after putting in some aftermarket products in the drivetrain its become rather indestructable and 1 of my more favorite bashers I have. Off the shelf quality from Associated seems to be lacking but a little aftermarket and they go a long way!

I hope so because I am planning on just getting a new O.S. or LRP engine soon and fixing my diffs. After that I think as long as the drivetrain holds up it will be a solid little machine that will hold up to my bashing.
