I need to get new rims/tires for my 2.5 maxx. I have a 3.3 engine in it. I like the look of the 3.3 rim/tires on the 3.3 maxx and on ebay they have the entire set for like $30 so was looking at this option as a quick way to get some shinies on my truck. However, I also notice the tires are a full 1" larger in diameter.

I used to have a 2.5 maxx years ago (the one I sold before I bought the one I'm currently working on) and had put a .18 os motor on it and bought some larger tires and the extra rotating mass ripped the plastic driveshafts apart.

Do you guys think I will have the same problem here?

I am using stock 2.5 driveshafts, and with the stock tires/rims with the 3.3 engine, the driveshafts have held up fine, but I am worried getting larger rims will make the handing worse and make acceleration not as responsive due to more inertia.

What are your guys' thoughts on this?

It wasn't the tires. I'm pretty sure the engine played hell on the driveshafts. Maybe throw on some CVD's for peace of mind.

I would get something that's gonna make your truck a little wider. Also I've had bad luck with those wheels. They are shaky, and the hexes will strip, after the center of the wheel cracks.

thanks for the responses guys, I ended up getting a set of rpm titan chrome rims with the 1/2" offset. I am having a hard time finding tires for it though. can anyone link some good rubbers to put on these rims? In any given week I have access to pavement woodchips, astro-turf and grass fields so would like a tire that can take on all of these with a good middleground performance in all of these terrains. Will not need anything for mud or dirt since I do not run in these kinds of places.

I usually take one into the LHS and fit them right there.. but that's probably because me and the owner are on a first name basis

I believe those are just standard MT rims, right? I think I have (had) a set with pro-line mulchers on them.

These? http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBLM7&P=7

If so, any standard MT tire will fit. Old school savage GT1 tires are good all around bashers. A bit taller than traxxas chevrons, but they get good bite on a variaty of surfaces. The sidewalls are taller though which makes them a little soft in the corners.

Notice the ruler in the background to show measurements.

Here's a maxx chevron:

Both fit on those RPM stablemaxx (1/2" offset) titan rims:

Here's a comparison of what you were thinking of buying to these and chevrons:

Left to right:
Maxx 3.3 17mm traxxas rims
Revo talon 17mm traxxas rims
HPI GT1 17mm RPM rims
Stock traxxas 2.5 maxx chevrons

Sorry, went a little picture happy.

Thanks olds!

those pictures really helped put the different tires into perspective. that was really nice of you to take the time to do this.

I ended up putting some proline badlands tires on them, in an effort to keep the tires stock size, they seem to work well, though can't say much for durability since these tires have only seen about 20 hours of run time.
