i have had my t-maxx 3.3 for about a month and twice it has got carbon buildup over the exauhst outlet. it stops it up to where it wont go anymore, so i just shove a screwdriver in there and bust it out. has anyone else had a problem like this? if so what am i doing wrong?
 
Do you have pics of this? is the stinger covered in anyway?

no i don't have any pics. it happend last night at the indoor track i go to. i meant to keep the piece but i think i knocked it on the ground and lost it. the carbon builds up inside the pipe and covers up the outlet from the inside. then i used a screwdriver to bust it off then i took some needlenose pliers and pulled the piece out of the inlet of the pipe.

lol i new this would happen lol

ill tell you why it is doing it is because they upgrade the engine but not the pipe, the pip it made for .18 engines and down traxxas is stupid. ok you need to get a pip that is made for .21 and up. what happens is that the carbon stuff you think it is it is actually plastic melting and clogging the pip up.

I had this problem when I upgrade my max from a .18 to a .21 I had to get a aluminum pip.
 
Wow! I can't imagine that much "carbon" build up... Is it a stock pipe?

Oh... just noticed, it's a t-maxx. I was thinking a revo (which comes stock with an aluminum pipe).

It sounds like thetmaxman is right though. Your pipe baffles are melting.

wow that is crazy. now that you mention it, it did look like plastic to me but i didn't think the pipe was melting! i just assumed it was carbon. i guess an aftermarket pipe is next on the list.
 
Yeah, i wouldnt imagine there is much (or any) carbon coming from the nitro fuel. Is the exhaust port on the 3.3 the same as the 2.5? If so, maybe a THS exhaust setup would be nice. It seemed to help the 2.5 power a bit.
 
i put the gh aluminum pipe . i just tried on my 3.3 it cut down on the wheelie on asphalt, but the top end is there
 
the cvec's are nice but if he is racing then they are illegal at sanctioned events ,not allowed any moving parts
 
because there is actually moving parts on the inside and the pipe can be adjusted for more top-end or more bottom end
 
This worked for me

I had the same thing happen to me "twice". I called Traxxas tech line and they told me that I was running rich and that oil from the fuel was building up in the baffle then melting it. I put another stock pipe on leaned it out and it happened again . This time traxxas told me i was running to lean and it was getting to hot.
After going through two of the junk plastic pipes that came stock on my 3.3 maxx I switched to the aluminum tuned pipe traxxas part #4942 problem is gone and truck is running "alot" better. I did notice that my temp went up a lil with the 4942 pipe. Also, Traxxas is comming out with a new Resonator tuned pipe for the 3.3 with in the next 30 days so keep an eye out for it. I will probably switch to it once its on the market since it is made for the 3.3.

Thanks for the info, it looks like you and me are having alot of the same problems. i am going to try to find that cvec pipe for mine, since i am not racing any sanctioned events. until then i am going to just use the stock one and bust the plastic off when it blocks the outlet.
 
hey , i did that to , " I drilled extra holes in mine after it plugged " It ran like crap ! The truck doesn't get the right back pressure "compression"... best bet is to junk the pipe after it melts .
