IS 2400 mah enough to compete in stock racing. I'm asking this because i just got a killer deal on ebay for a poop load of matched gp 2400 batteries. I'm just wondering if this can compete in a stock class. or am i just wasting my time

You should get at least 3000s for raceing stock. They are very good for playing around with.

I strongly suggest 3300's. That is what I use at the track and let me tell you, IT SHOWS! I have taken mains because I'm still FLYING along and others are on the down slide of power.

Sanyo just released new 3600 mAh cells now too! So if anything, the price of the 3,300's SHOULD start to drop. SHOULD!

If you are looking for a zapped and matched set, I can suggest a good company if interested.

well i thought that 2400 mah would be good enough for stock racing when the races are only 5 minutes long.

Probably will be but if the difference is price is minimal, maybe springing for the higher pack wont be such a bad idea?

I run 5 minute mains and the 3300 makes a BIG difference.

The 3300 packs are usually rated around 420 seconds. 5 minutes is 400 seconds.

Take it from there.

oh,
well the reason why i am stressing me using 2400 packs is because i got a really good deal on 3 matched 2400 mah packs on ebay, but if you guys really think its a waste of time using 2400 backs in a five minute stock race i will sell them back.

Use them for practice and the qualifiers. No harm in that. But I would suggest picking up a 3300 for the main.

Your best best is to take one into the races with you and see how it performs. I think you will be surprised to see most running 3000 and higher.

When I say rated for 420 seconds, I dont mean thats when they cutout. They deliver FULL power for 420+ seconds. Thats the goal. HAMMER DOWN the WHOLE TIME with NO POWER LOSS!

Sorry for the caps.

Not to be a jerk on my first post here, but 5 minutes is 300 seconds. :)

One of the very fastest and most consistant drivers at my track regularly runs 1700s in his buggy and 2400s in his truck. They are easily as fast as my 1.17+ GP3300s and have more than enough battery life for 5 minute races in stock class. They're old packs hes had for years and are carefully maintained, but still, they're extremly competitive.

If you take care of them properly theres no reason why you can't race with 2400 packs, especially at a club/local level.

Sorry - I fat fingered that one. I know its 300.

I run stock class as well. And who I see in victory lane, has 3000+ under the lid.

I'm not saying you can't run 2400's, you in fact can. And if your driving skills are superior, you can in fact win.

I'm just pointing out that there is a BIG difference in the cars running 3,000's and 3,300's at my track, at the near-end of a main or qulifier, versus the guys running less. Its a visible difference noticed by everyone there, not just me.

Your best bet is to watch and see what everyone is running at the track, where they are placing and decide from there. If you are after the #1 2 or 3 spot, and have 40-50 people running like we do, you will more than likely step it up. Again, watch and see what everyone is running and where they are placing.

Yes, driving skills will be a BIG part of it as well. But what you may lack is skill can sometimes be picked up with power. It certainly has helped me come in the top 3 from time to time.

SpecPoint Battery packs can be scored rather inexpensively now as well. Compared to what they were getting for 3300 zapped and matched packs not long ago. This was yet another reason I bought them. Hell, 2 years ago I wouldnt have even considerred it because of the price alone. I didnt need to place THAT bad.

Ill be selling these soon (I hope)

Just look at the prices.

thanks for the help
i will try using my 2400 batteries at my first race. if it is a big difference of me using the 2400's i will step it up. thanks everyone for your help

When I was running electrics I started with 1500s. Later I upped them to 2400s. Finally I went for the 3000s. The main thing you will notice with each step up is the increase in low end torque. The speed will be the same since the voltage is unchanged, but a good start with 1500s becomes a wheelie start with 3000s.
I'm now using NiMh Reedy Match Pack 3000s in a Villain IV twin batt, twin motor boat. They were $40 apiece. A few bucks more, but all the cells are the same. That means you won't have a weaker cell running down early, but have all the cells discharging at the same rate.
