My old civic that i blew up could have taken it, back in the day. 9.97 quarter mile. But it wasn't street legal.

That must have been a fun Civic. Thanks for the correction cody! LOL

I'm talking about the 2010 i like the old camaros i have a 78 trans am with about 520hp
i done some work and the car tops out a 160mph

520hp is nice. Sounds like a sweet ride. Post up some pics. I like Trans-Am's.
I have seen plenty of 400hp cars outrun 500hp cars on the strip.

You must have a small fortune in that small block 400? And to be honest here, the 2010 will leave a '69 with a 350 in the weeds.

Muscle cars were fast back in the day, but a modern V6 can keep up with or outright smoke most the classics. I will never forget when Hot Rod did their first four-banger build-up. They got 330 horses without a blower, turbo, nor nitrous.

Ya but how much did they spend to get that power vs how much you would spend to get the same power out of a v8?

My friend just built a motor for his 68 cougar spent about 7 grand on the motor/bolt ons All motor dyno'd at 508 HP

You gotta spend like 10,000+ to get a honda to put out anywhere near that.

There were quite a few(though rare) factory rides (ex: 69 COPO) in the late 60's that were faster than today's Z06 Corvette. Including Camaros, Corvette, and Buick. But those were the ones built to go fast. Not the everyday off the live car the 2010 Camaro, Current Mustang, and new Challenger are. It was in the 70's that they slowed the cars down due to the gas crisis.

Heck there are a lot of trucks that are faster than old muscle cars.

A factory 1969 Copo 427 Camaro ran 8's in the quarter mile off the showroom floor! Takes a lot of juice and the right setup to get 9's. That must have been a fun Civic.
.

It was, until i forgot to tighten the nitrous line down, thus when spray'd it hit the glowing hot block and followed up the lines, and right into the tank. BOOM!

Glad i wasn't driving it.:D But my boy was ok. Just a premature sprayer.

Sorry but I gotta get the facts out on this one. Here are the specs for a 1969 Camaro ZL1 (COPO 9560) 427/430bhp: 0-60 in 5.3 sec, 1/4 mile in 13.16 sec @ 110 mph. In case you are wondering, a good friend has one of only 69 made that year. I will see if I can find the story Hot Rod did on his car.

Mid 13's to high 12's were the norm for most muscle cars of the day.

I wish that Chevrolet would actually build this special edition Dale Jr Camaro. Or build a Dale Earnhardt Sr. Special edition Camaro. It would go well will my Dale Sr. Intimidator SS Silverado.

Chevy showed off this Camaro at SEMA to show off their Factory Parts you can order from your dealer and/or from the factory. It is a Modified SS/RS.

Just for fun.

I was looking at a motor trend article. Go figure. Thanks for backing me up. LOL

That would make my Silverado faster than the COPO. ROFL

UPDATE: I looked on my clubs website. One of our members has a 69 ORange Copo. Ugly as hell if you ask me. LOL... He has drag slicks on his and his best time was I think in the 11's. I will go see if his track slip is still posted. That was a couple years ago on what he says is a factory ride. I'm sure it's had a few updates here and there but impressive none the less.

There were several "tuner" Camaros by Baldwin Motion and the like that were basically "factory" race cars but the 427 in stock form wasn't much faster than any other big-block of the time. Pontiac had the 440, Buick the 455, and Ford had both the 428 and the 429 Cobra Jet. All iconic! Sorry do disagree with you, my friend, but when it comes to classic muscle I know my stuff. It ain't a pissing contest but I will list the cars that either I or my father have owned/raced over the years if you need me to list my 'creds'! Peace!

I didn't grow up with these cars in my drive-way. I didn't witness these awesome cars in their prime unfortunately.

I posted up the pics for fun not to upset anyone. Sorry if I did so. I'll Stop...

The L88 in your friends Camaro. Is that the same 427 the GM had lost the toolings to and recently re-found them in a junk yard? I read they sold them in cate engines and the first run came with a plaque and the whole works.

Oh I am sure there are several that got under 12.99... I would imagine the governing body made him put a rollcage in that classic. I had a '68 Mustang GT with a 390 that we got into the 12's and I got thrown off the track! Told me to de-tune it or get a cage. :\

You didn't upset anyone! I love cars and talking cars! I just like to get the facts out. I never had a 427 Vette nor a big-block Camaro but I had some nice cars in my time. My pop was racing a '66 Shelby Mustang when I was a tyke--guess you could say fast cars are in my blood!

Same here with my friends 71 dart swinger with a 340 6 pack +150 shot ran a 12.8 and they threw us off.

ok I'm gonna start with the stickers :)

We are not talking about the same engine in the same car. The L88 is a cast iron big-block while the ZL1 was an aluminum block. That is what made them so rare! You know what is really funny--they put 'em in 69 Camaros but only in two Vettes!

I have no idea if he did or not. I would doubt it. Probably just left the track.

I've heard some of the guys in my club complain about that with their trucks. Our top 10 is all in the 11's last I looked (9 of them at least), which I always thought was fast for a full size 4500lb truck.

Oh yeah I forgot about that. I still think it was funny that GM found their toolings in a junk yard after some how loosing them. LOL

I wish I was the guy that found them!

That IS fast my friend. Please bare in mind that the Camaro wasn't all that light and the Chevelle and it's sister brands (Buick GS and Pontiac GTO, etc.) were every bit as heavy as those trucks!

For a minute there I thought you might be trying to call me out--kinda trying to catch me talkin' out my ass. I will never do that!

Those cars were fast for their time no doubt. The racers of those times were truly "Sled Drivers"
LOL

Nope. I don't play that way! I was asking a legit question. Just didn't read the full story on your friends car and what it was packing under the hood. hehe I am distracted by the elections coverage on the tv.

I just could not remember which 427 it was that GM buggered up.
