Cool.

Maybe once the Tmaxx is around that long, Traxxas will have a good stock engine. It will probably still be a .15, but hopefully it will be good ;)

Dont let the Traxxas forums hear you say that!! I think thats like 1000 points against you :)

-Chris

That's why I'm not registered there...

I'm not against traxxas. I like some of their design, but everyone (even them) knows there are many weak points on the maxx. Bulks, wheel bearings, diffs, shocks...

Seems like they fixed a lot of that on the Revo. But I guess we wont know until people finally have them for a while.

I'm in the camp that thinks the Revo and the 'Maxx are actually different trucks for different things. I like the new suspension on the Revo, but after watching it I think its *too* easy, you can't really hit anything because it just climbs over it. Seems cool at first, but there might be cases where you DONT want that to happen.

I beat the heck outta my 'Maxx. I've put $$$ into it, but I'm smart enough not to keep track of how much my hobbies cost me ;)

Hmm, well, I guess it's OK to say this, but then in the very next post I see this:

I added up all I've put into the truck (including original purchase of the truck) and I think I'm at like 800.00.

Dude, I though you said you were smart enough NOT to keep track of the spending, but then you just did, lol. Hey, I'm just kidding here, no offense meant. The bottom line is, these T-Maxxes are great 1/10 scale MT's, but a stock T-Maxx won't compare in durability to a stock Monster GT, nor will the stock T-Maxx perform well at the race track. I have seen both vehicles (in stock and modified forms) at the track, so I speak from some experience. The stock MGT will fly and jump around the track with no effort, whereas the stock T-Maxx will struggle to stay together and upright, if the stupid .15 engine doesn't overheat and die first. Of course, this is just my :2cents: .

Heh, no offense taken. I "took stock" in the case that I was ready to sell the Maxx. Thats when I realized its a losing proposition (I figure I'm lucky if I can get 500 for my Maxx, even though it cost me 800).

I dont race, so thats not a big deal to me. I'm just worried about bashing. So far this season, I havent run it much (damn the TRX 2.5!!!) but when I did, I at least didnt break anything!!! I'm sure I've done enough that Id be out a couple A-arms, and possibly even a front bulk or two. So I'm thinking its tough enough, now all I need is a good engine (Fantom 18 going in tonight, hopefully the weather clears enogh tomorrow so I can break it in).

Chris,

Man, you seem like a good guy. I hate to see you wasting your money. I think you should cut your losses and just order the Losi LST or get a Monster GT. Either one is a solid truck with big-block power right from the get-go.

If you upgrade to that Fantom you will probably start breaking all kinds of driveline components which, after all, were only designed to handle the power level of the .15 engine. But it sounds like you already have the engine, so all I can say is "good luck"!!

Heh. I've read of many people not needing to upgrade driveline components. Sure, I might need CVDs (wanted them anyway). Havent read of many people wiping out diffs (they'll wipe out even with the stock .15) or tranny gears.

I might put her up for sale though. Attach a "reach" price tag and see if there are any takers. Then Id get an MGT, and then not be able to upgrade anything, because nothing would break!!! :)

It all depends on how you phrase it... It's not that you won't be able to, it's more like you won't "need" to.

Why not a savage? I see the MGT and the LST, but I see no savage?

He didnt mention it, but that would be an alternative as well. Id actually like the Savage SS, I hear it can really take a beating, decent performance with the 25, and Id be able to build it.

I could even use the cheap Tmaxx radio setup in both trucks :)

-Chris

Yeah, I read an article today about the wonders of EPA. Since I flipped the bell crank for the Fantom to fit, I think the linkage gets pushed too far without any way to adjust it.

Another place to spend $$$. At least thats not Traxxas's fault I guess.

-Chris

IMHO, I won't run without it. Otherwise, there's minimal control short of messing a lot with linkages and it has a tendency to put a heavy strain on your servo's.

Trucks, cars, boats come and go, but you can always use a good radio. I found that out the hard way when I gave up my JR Xr2 in a trade. All I had left was the traxxas tq3. The JR wasn't all that special, but it allowed you to set the stuff where you wanted it to stop.

A decent radio is a must. MX3 is great radio. I got one but it uses crystals (as we all know), which is a pain. New MX3 is synthesized, which is very nice. I am using JR XS3, which is synthesized already and is the only way to go if you plan on racing, where frequency conflicts are a constant pain in the ass.

EPA and other adjustments are important, no doubt. Save battery and servo life.

I never mentioned Savage as I don't have one, nor have I ever seen one at the track, so I have no idea how great they are. I hear they are extremely durable, which is very important in this hobby. I would say a Savage is in my future, but that is ONLY after I get the Losi LST, lol.

damn i posted on this tread now its gone????and i really put some heart in to this comment Mods where did it go?

When did you make your post? If it was a day or so ago between midnight and eight in the morning, then it is probably gone. Server crashed and we lost some posts.

OK, I think you guys cursed my truck :(

In the process of breaking in my Fantom, I

A) lost my throttle servo (doesn't return to center cleanly anymore). Good thing I took reverse outta the maxx last year :)

B) Snapped the antenna off my receiver in an interesting cartwheel along the edge of a curb

and C) in the same cart wheel along the curb, dented the exhaust header (definitely not the shock towers fault, the dent is in a place where I can't see the shock tower being able to hit the header).

Granted, these things could happen to any truck, I think. Its just all your fault that it happened to mine!!! ;)

-Chris

LOL, I think you should take the truck into a local church for an exorcism.
