Well, I hate to say it, but I am about done with T-Maxxes. I have two of them, both fixed up quite a bit. One of them is set up for racing with all the best parts and at least $1,500 into it. Don't get me wrong, the race Maxx a great truck. But it's high maintenance, expensive and prone to breakage, even with the best of parts.

Then I went and bought a Monster GT for $450. All I did was put in a good steering servo and better radio and I have been racing the crap out of the thing for a month with absolutely NO breakage, and that includes some major league stuffs and cartwheels. Man, I have hardly even tuned the thing and it just flat works. I checked wheel alignment and adjusted the carb, that's it. It runs great and jumps beautifully. The MGT is built like a tank with its full chassis and no stupid bulkheads.

If you're like me and getting sick of spending the big money on your Maxx, then consider a MGT. Or maybe wait a bit and get the Losi LST, I'll bet that's a winner too.

Now, please, all you Maxx lovers, don't get all riled up. This is just my :2cents: As I said, I have 2 Maxxes, so I ain't a Maxx hater, not yet anyway.

Everyone has an opinion and their right to it. I have the MGT and the Maxx and I Bash them both hard. I expect breakage so I am not one to complain BUT if the same thing breaks then I get pissed.

LOL...I had a T-Maxx. I also kept a box load of spare parts for the times when the parts failed my driving. I also had a Savage. The number of spare parts that I kept on hand for that truck was substantially lower than those for the T-Maxx. Now, my parts locker is nearly empty as the only RC I have left is a buggy...and so far I have had very few breakages when compared to either truck.

The T-Maxx is hands down the most breakage prone truck I ever owned. I built it up to withstand my driving and it cost me nearly two grand to get it there. If I had it to do again, I would have waited for something better...like the Savage. Live and learn.

i toatally agree with you I'm getting sick of the thing breaking every time i turn around its something else. Because of this I'm thinkin of going for a Savage or MGT at the end of summer sometime.

either one you really can't go wrong since both are fun to drive. Wrenching is never a fun task as you are not driving it.

I did the same thing as sky... I had a maxx that I loaded about 2G's into and it was still breaking stuff left and right. I then bought Sky's savage and built a 2wd sport maxx with a bunch of the stuff I had on my 21 maxx. I beat the crap out of both this weekend with minimal damage.

With the sport maxx, it's lighter than a 21 maxx obviously and it has a lot of stuff on it. If I added it up, it's probably around $800 into it if I started with a new sport maxx and put all this crap on it. I busted my rear integy bulks (which suck, don't buy them for durability), and that was it.

With the savage, all that happened to it was I lost a rear center cvd pin somewhere.

EDIT: I found later that I blew 6 out of my eight shocks... that would explain it's bouncy nature.

I think the maxx makes for a good racer, but not a good basher. Where the maxx leaves off in durability, the savage starts. But, I can't see racing a savage. You would really have to mess around with the suspension to get it quick to respond on a track. But it sure makes for one durable truck. Just the design of it screams durability.

I have to think you guys have really beat the Maxx-es up!!! My bro-in-law and I have done some really horrible things with ours, and sure we break stuff, but we end up surprised about how little stuff we broke.

I think it has a lot to do with luck too. I can do 6 cartwheels and not break a thing. He can barely brush by a curb and wipe out a motor mount and fuel tank.

Although I havent seen an MGT in action, I hear they are close to unbreakable. However, I dont like the (current) lack of aftermarket parts. I hear its getting better, but having a stock nitro truck is no fun!!!

i here u there i just bought a t-maxx and have putsome mone into it and its still stock.

I agree. My maxx has cost me a bit of cash. And then I go and make a bigger mistake a got a Mammoth that I have broken stuff on it after taking it out twice. By the way it's my Mammoth in the Dash & Bash vid. Anyway- I really would like to get a MGT in the near future, they really impressed me at the bash.

I beat the heck outta my 'Maxx. I've put $$$ into it, but I'm smart enough not to keep track of how much my hobbies cost me ;)

Honestly, I've broken a couple a-arms, a couple bulks, and a set of skids. It sounds like a lot, but I broke it all with some pretty bad driving. As I've broken stuff, I've replaced it with hopped up parts (RPM A-Arms, skids, etc).

The only real major issue I've had all along is the darn TRX 2.5. I blame Traxxas for that, I have a FR18 waiting to go in. Just waiting for RC Raven to *finally* send me a fixed chassis (incorrect motor mount holes cause me to waste a motor mount. i didnt count that as me breaking it, because it broke due to the poor "fix" that RCRaven gave with the chassis).

Besides, I need to make myself feel better, or else this thread will cost me 400 bux for a Monster GT :)

yep $1700 later and my truck is bullet proof and for sale at $700.......suxor....

Thinking back, I should have just built a Supermaxx from scratch. Basicly if it has the traxxas name on the part, its gonna fail.

I added up all I've put into the truck (including original purchase of the truck) and I think I'm at like 800.00. That includes new A-arms (30 bux), new bulks (100 bux), new skids (xmas gift :) ), new braces (25 bux), new chassis (26 bux) and new shocks (100 bux). I have a Fantom (150.00) waiting to go in, so add that in and I'm up to a little over 800 bux. (NOTE: I'm not including the normal wear and tear stuff that we'd have to replace regardless of what truck we have......i.e. plugs, fuel, batteries, etc).

No offense, but I'm not quite understanding where the higher spending amounts are coming from. I have a couple Traxxas labelled parts left on my truck, but most of the breakable stuff has been replaced with much better stuff, and it didnt really cost me much $$$.

I'm sticking with the tmaxx. Deathly afraid of putting even an 800.00 truck up for sale for the price I can get for it (if you sell a 1700 'maxx for 700, I might have to GIVE my 800.00 one away :) ).

I did all that you did as well. But include 2 more engines(couldn't find one with enough power), a 21 conversion and 2 21 engines (one blew up and the other is now on my savage), steel drive train (cvd's, trans gears, spur) and this will tie on another $600 easy. Especially depending on what conversion you use. If you want to talk electronics as well, add another $200...

Instead of selling my 21 maxx, I just parted it out for a sport maxx that I built. Backup is the name of the game when your running a maxx, plain and simple. Besides, after dumping all that cash, time and effort into it, I just couldn't bring myself to selling it for 1/3 what I put into it.

yeah thats the way I feel. bad part is I can list 4 parts that about equal my asking price for the whole truck minus receiver.
UE 7.5 diff when I bought them $315
UE EXT Suspension arms $250
UE Racer X shock towers $100
UE Racer X Supermaxx supershocks $120
hmm thats about $700 right there.

And I haven't included the motor, conversion chassis, exhaust, Hightorque all metal gear servo, RRP dual disk cluch, mip clutch, wheels, tires, battery pack etc etc....oh and the $425 it cost me to buy the truck to begin with.

Best thing to do on a supermaxx is to build it from scratch. If you ever sell your $800 truck, its gonna feel like you're giving it away :)...I know thats the way I feel right now. The reality is I'll probably have to thow in all the stock T-maxx parts including the motor and the $80 Race bag to carry it all in.

Yeah. I think my best bet is to stop reading this thread so the temptation goes away. Just play with the Maxx at least for a little longer (I havent even had it for a complete season yet, got it the middle of last summer), and then eventually take the loss and buy another truck.

Or Ill end up having kids and will sell it and NOT buy another truck. Saves even more $$$ in the long run :)

-Chris

No kidding. Been married 3 years, its about that time anyway.

So much for my toys!!! I guess Ill just have to be a person who is glad to have what they have. Until the kids turn 18 and I can kick 'em outta the house!!! Then I can buy more toys.

I wonder if my Tmaxx will last 19 years............
