Congrats!! I love my digital camera. I have a Canon PowerShot A75. I was using it tonight to take some pics for ebay.

You need to get photoshop... It makes playing with you friend's pics fun.

haha

its a really nice camera for the average user. i have the powershot S230 which is an older and smaller version of what you just got. they seem to have all the same features except your has more optical zoom and mines a little smaller. i like mine a lot and have been using if for the past 2-3 years with no problems at all. and it takes better pictures than what i need it for. really handy, reliable, and if yours has the same Li-ion battery that mine does, it goes for a long time on a charge too. movies arent bad with it either, though once you start recording you can't zoom in and out. they may have improved that feature with yours though.

Welcome to the real world.
It takes a while to realize you can take as many pictures as you want without feeling guilty. Always use the maximum picture size and resolution settings.

The time it takes to be ready for the next pic is pretty slow, but for the snap shots I take it is OK. A friend of mine let me borrow his Powershot S1, and it was sweet, but I couldn't get myself to spend 400 beans. Especialy since I hope to spend the real $$$ on a digital video camera the summer. Hopefully make some sweet RC vids!

I agree with FastEddy on the settings. Also use the optical zoom rather than the digital.
Also, to maximize your battery life, use the viewfinder rather than the LCD screen. Those screens are MAJOR power hogs.
