Hi,

I currently purchased a 1100mah Ni-Mh receiver pack battery made by APS and I am using a Pirahna Digital Peak Charger.

I have the charger set up with the following configuration:

Battery Type - NiMH
Capacity - 1100mah
Set Rate - Auto or 1.1
Peak - 8mv/c

However, when I charge my battery, it stops usually within 30 minutes and the charge in the battery as per the charger is in the 200 - 300 range. I have also noticed that I only get about 30 minutes of run time. I have two batteries which I brought new.

Can anyone advise me on what changes I should make to the above configuration that will give me a better charge?

Thanks,

Brian

I have a NiMh pack as well and on my peak charger when the light is solid it's in the full charge mode 1.0 Mah rate. When it detects a full charge it defaults to a trickle mode and the light blinks. Sometimes these peak detection chargers get a false peak reading. I just simply unplug then plug the pack in again and give it another chance at peak detection. After that, I let it stay on the trickle charge overnight. Let it get fully charged. Remember, NiMh batteries like to be stored with at least a 25% charge on them. Don't discharge them like Nicd's before storing them. When you are done for the day and your NiMh pack is almost dead, put a charge on it before storing it.

bgarner,

I recommend charging radio batteries at less than 1C, meaning less than 1 amp per 1000 mah of capacity. Try setting your charge rate to .5 amps.

The peak voltage affects how sensitive the charger is, and low settings can result in false peaks. Try setting it to 10 or 12 mv per cell.

If you read most off the shelf battery chargers they will say not to use it to charge the 6v 1100mah battery packs. They tend to get too hot during high amp charges and it lessens their life. Use a trickle charger; 100mah at 6 to 10 volts. It may take longer(6 hours or so), but the battery will last for about 5 hours of run time. Better to have two or more on hand if you plan to be playing for extended amounts of time.
