I am brand new to NITRO RC, (not that I am "Experienced" with Elec.)d

I recently purchased a Savage X from a good friend of mine, it had one gallon of fuel ran through it. My friend had it running quite rich, to ensure longevity.

I have LOTS of neighbors near by and decided to try the exhaust silencer, it seems to work better than I thought it would.

So I started to tune the Truck, like the manual says - 1st tank nothing really changed with my tuning. 2nd Tank - Got it running pretty nice. Just needs a little FINE tuning now. By the end of the Second tank of fuel I had worn out the Slipper Clutch pad. I am tuning for more power BTW.

I thought no biggy, I know they are cheap and meant to wear and save other parts.

I put a new one in. next tank of fuel I toasted it sooner.

So I open up the manual and see that the truck should have 2 clutch pads. Mine only has 1 (RTR Model differance?)

So I order the part to hold the second Clutch disc in. I got it today and installed 2 Clutch pads (I would think this should give it ATLEAST 70% more holding power).

Well I installed it, and went to put the on nut that holds the "tension spring?" and its on, but the shaft if not long enough. I set it up, and I bet it will work, but I also bet it will vibrate loose, as I do not think the Nylon is touching to help keep it on.

IS there a different shaft I have to buy? Does anyone know the part number or name?

Also does someone know the part numbers for the spring and nut? I may end up loosing them this afternoon when trying the truck :D

Here's a list of part #'s for everything that has to do w/your slipper clutch that I was able to find.

All parts listed have been looked up on Savage-Central and may be found at the following link: http://store.savagess.com/index.php

86800 Slipper Clutch Hub Savage X
[HPI86800]
86801 Slipper Clutch Plate A Savage X
[HPI86801]
86802 Slipper Clutch Plate B Savage X
[HPI86802]
HPI Slipper Clutch Pad(2)
[HPI72131]

As far as the shaft and the nut, I'm uncertain.

I definitely have Clutch Plates A & B (I had to order "B")

I have some extra Clutch Discs/Pads (5 Extra's - and two fresh ones already installed)

Where abouts is the Slipper Clutch Hub Located?

Section 5-2 in the manual, page 37. The very top Diagram is of the slipper clutch assembly. Should you need the manual, here is the link to the pdf file:

Hope this helps.

Hmm...

I was reading a different page of my manual when I found out about the twin clutch pads.

I look at the URL you sent (the manual) thank-you very much.
I then looked at MY owners manual after hunting it down and finding it, and the same page in my manual shows my single clutch set up :( Is this on RTR Models of the Savage X and NOT on nonassembled ones?

Looks like I will have to get a few more parts, Thanks for the help - it was great and fast

No problem, glad I could help shed some light for you.

On the Savage X, HPI briefly went with a dual pad slipper... people hated it worse than the original slipper. So they went back to the old design. If you keep roasting that slipper pad, chances are the locknut is worn out and slowly backing off while you drive.
Stick with the single slipper pad set-up, it works fine when you get it right.

Or you can do a simple fix with a washer and some grease. Run a search for "slipper coming loose - the fix!". There's a parts list and images that'll explain it fairly clearly there.
