1/8 vs 1/10?

Posted this in '1/8' forum yesterday but no response. hoping for some info here.

Explain what makes a 1/10 and a 1/8. Until yesterday, i thought my Revo was a 1/8 car. I'm still under the impression that my Inferno is a 1/8 car. Yet they have the same wheelbase.

Well a Revo is actually a 1/10 on a 1/8 chassis. I really don't know why they call the revo a 1/10 scale when it is the same size as a 1/8 truck. I asked my lhs guy that not to long ago and thats what he explained to me. So basically your revo is a 1/8 scale just scaled wrong by the book lol. I do know one thing I love my revo but traxxas really needs to step there game up and put a bigger engine on the revo from stock. 3.3 is a great motor don't get me wrong but the revo is just a little smaller than a stock 4.6 savage and look what HPI put's in there 4.6 and it will smoke a stock revo.

I have a Savage XL and an X. My neighbor also has an XL his son has a Revo. It's a lot smaller than our XLs and just a touch smaller than my X. My X has a 4.6 and my XL has a 5.2. I agree the 3.3 is a pretty decent little engine but can't compete with the big block power of the Savages.

So is the 1/8, 1/10 rating based on the engine size?

It is based on the size it is compared to a real car or truck.

Thats what I figured. I guess the discussion I had with the a buddy 2 days ago re the Revo had me wondering. Thanks traxxas, for the confusion.

Yea i really don't know why they scaled the revo at a 1/10 when any other 1/8 scale car or truck out there besides the xl savage is either a little smaller or the same size as the revo. My jato is a 1/10 and it's not even close to the same size as my revo.
