I originaly had this as a reply to the notorious serpent 950 106mph thread. I thought I would move it here for others who are sick of waiting for Somers Racing to come good on his promises, to see some pics of a 1/8 going pretty fast.

106mph is pretty damn fast, what engine does this puppy run apart from a "lightened one". I lightened one of my engines once I took the piston & liner out, it knocked a few grams off but it didnt go real good. they generely need a few more mods than taking a few grams off here & there.
I have a dirty old Picco Integra with a Mario Rossi modified Kangaroo .21 with matching pipe, the integra has every possible light weight part from Paris on it & I reckon it would be a safe bet to volunteer to eat my own sh*t if it cracked 100mph.130kph
would be a fair estimate. I have never radar tested it but here is a few pics of it kicking the backside of a 600hp Ford Brute Ute.
For those of you that arent from AU Brute Ute is a class in Australian Racing that runs along with the V8 touring cars.
The race was at Oran Park raceway in Sydney on Dec 21 2003
It was on the main straight over about 300 metres. In the last pic the integra is the tiny dot at the end of the straight.
Enjoy

You wouldn't happen to have any Video of that race? That would be awesome to see and hear that race. Nice pics though. Looks like it was fun to watch.

sLY

I have been checking around to see if anyone took some video, but no luck yet. If I get hold of one I will get it on the web & post a link straight away. I have more pics but they are all similar. I had a grin from ear to ear for hours after it. We had three runs & after the first drag the crowd (about 5000 people) got right behind the mighty integra. All you could hear was the roar of the V8 & the crowd cheering, I was worried in the first run that I might pop the engine over such a long distance at full revs, but I temped it after the first pass it was at 210F. So I really gave it to it in the 2nd & 3rd. The only time I could hear how it reved was as it went passed me. I was standing in a small camera tower at roughly the middle of the 300 meters so I could see the car at the start & finish. Even then at the start line & the run off at the end it was like driving a dot. I have been asked for a rematch at the next open day (not till dec 04) & they want to start the 1/1 car further back so it has a rolling start as it hits the start line (at about 50mph) to even it up a bit. I can't wait.

Nice pictures, i've always wanted to race a 1:1 car. I think i'd do pretty good until the 1:1 gets past 60mph, my top speed (but it gets there fast)

BTW, I put the pictures so people can easily see it.

it would be a better match if you were to race a motorcycle. Now that would be something I would like to see :hehe:

A motorbike would be cool, I will see what I can organise. A top fueller or funny car would be even better but at the price it costs those guys per run I dont think I will get many takers

I'm giving some thought of moving from 1/8 monster truck to top fuel drag racing, still looking at web sites to get an idea of what i may be getting into. One site I found had a 1/8 rail that ran on 4 model rocket motors, interesting. Another site was for 1/4 scale top fuel using modified Zenoha engines. The rail was 7' long

Robie6, could you post a link to those sites, I would be interested in having a look. The top fueller & funny car I would like to race are 1/1. I would get my ass kicked I imagine, but the first 100 metres would be interesting.

What distance is a normal drag race there? 300 meters is what, 1000 feet? Do you run 1/4 mile at all? And that brute ute, what does it run in 300 m or 1/4 mi?

I used to drag race years ago, I had a 71 camaro with a 327 I built, with a 4 speed. It could pull the front wheels off the ground. That was fun to do at intersections!

Yeah we run the 1/4 mile it is 400 metres, I think 300 metres is about 940 feet. Where we ran isnt a proper drag strip, it was on the main straight of a race track. 300 metres was a bit of a compramise, I only wanted to go 200 metres (1/8 mile) as I was a bit concerned at running at full revs for so long & also the car was hard to see at the distance we ran so the full 1/4 would have been a stretch.
I am not sure how quick the ute would be over the 1/4 it is not a drag car, more of V8 touring car with a ute body (Utes are really popular over here) I imagine it would do the 1/4 in a high 10 low 11 second or thereabouts. This is only a guess.
The day was a charity day to raise money for sick kids & give kids in hospital (being treated for Cancer etc) a day at the race track with santa & so on. Our R/C club had a track set up & we ran a race day with the funds going to the charity & to provide a display for people to watch. Also the big cars were there doing similar stuff on the real track with hot laps people could buy etc.
We went out in 2002 & everyone was impressed with the speed of the little cars so the challenge was thrown up for a race in 2003. Which is the pics you see on this thread, there is a bigger match up planned for 04, but we will have to wait untill dec to see what the result is. The URL for the day is www.kidsraceday.com.au if anyone is interested in having a look. Most of the stuff on it is 1/1 cars but there is a bit of our stuff from 02 & 03 there is still more to go on there from 03 I belive.
We raised a truckload of money for the Kids & they all had a great time, we even had an hour where a few of us took our older cars & let them have a bash on the track.

Damm, Thats crazy.... If it is a 10's low 11's Rc car. Thats equal to what my Z ran.

You have any idea what the 60ft times on that thing are?

The 60 ft time would be about 1.5 to 2 seconds, I will time it on the weekend if I get a chance. The problem with a 10 to 11 sec 1/4 mile time on the car is it hits top speed in about 2.5 seconds & thats it, it runs out of legs. Absoloute top speed would be about 85 to 90 mph. All these times & speeds are just an estimate I would have to get a radar gun or strap a GPS to it
to get exact figures. Who knows it may do 100mph but I doubt it.

100mph doesn't equal 130kph. 130kph is just over 80mph. 100mph is 160kph. just my $.02

100 mph = 160 kph, then again ... I was never good at remembering my conversions.
