1:1 paint issue

hey guys!

Its been a month or two since I've been around, but its good to be back!

I've got an issue with the paint on the hood of my truck. I didnt wax it last year before winter, mostly because I procrastinate but thats besides the point. Anyway, the paint now has that spiderweb look to it. Its even bad enough to look like a fine wire brush was taken to it. Is there anything I need to do to fix it besides a coat of wax?

Take it to a pro detailer and see if they recommend buffing it. Sounds like the clear coat is in rough shape. They may be able to bring it back to life.
If it does not have clear coat you can polish it yourself with a lot of elbow grease.

if theres enough clear on it you can buy some of that really fine grain sandpaper for painting and try and take it out. oh and buff it after you sand on it. and sand on it with water! look up profesional car painting to make sure you know what to do, this is just a summary.

i've delt with this befor...i would recomend wet sanding it very lightly with a very very fie sand paper..i forget what i used..jus be very carefull not to sand through the clear coat cause then your screawed and would have to re-paint..

They are all correct. Wet sand it lightly with 2000 grit. Has it been painted before? If so was it sanded all the way to bare metal? If it wasn't there could be a problem with too much mil thickness and that could be causing the "webbing"

as far as I know, its factory paint. Is there anything other than sanding I could do? I'm just a little leery of going at my truck with abraisives. Is there any wax like thing i could use? with all the new car crap coming out these days for car maintenance I wouldent be surpised if there isnt something that would just revive teh clear coat. Maybe somthing like one of those scratch repair things, but...not. If that makes any sense

2000 grit sandpaper is not your typical sandpaper. Go to the store and feel it. That stuff is used for finish sanding and purpose built for what ya need. Wet sanding will pop all that stuff right out if you pay attention.

make sure to buff after your done! buffing cream has a small amount in abrasive in it, but less than the 2000 grit sand paper so it don't look so rough. if you dont have a buffing wheel, (wait whats it called?) any way, you can use a clean 100% cotton rag.
