This RC Car Is Controlled Online

I turned an RC car into a real internet-controlled vehicle. In this short, you’ll see how we build a connected RC platform using: Traxxas TRX-4 chassis Mini PC + LTE modem Arduino Nano for hardware control

General RC Information

In this short, you’ll see how we build a connected RC platform using:
- Traxxas TRX-4 chassis
- Mini PC + LTE modem
- Arduino Nano for hardware control
- USB camera for live video
- AR glasses and gamepads
- Real-time control via browser from PC and smartphone
- 3s4p 12 Ah ~ 8km

Challenges Faced
Main challenges:
- fitting mounting geometry with 0.5 mm precision and 3D printing the parts
- setting up live streaming and fine-tuning its parameters
- immature open-source software components
- video stream stabilization
- making all components work together reliably
- having to learn many things from scratch in order to hide the complexity behind simple configuration forms
- the “drunk car” effect caused by latency above 50 ms

What needs improvement:
- replacing direct joystick-to-servo coefficient streaming with course control based on a gyroscope and IMU
- obstacle avoidance and lane keeping
- moving away from direct control toward task-based control
