N301 list race #3 2023.
We crammed in five rounds of racing, despite one racer needing to leave early, and another arriving late. Unfortunately, two teammates were unable to attend due to ongoing health issues. One is probably out the entire season, the other hopes to return soon.
The list got shook up pretty good. My brother-in-law, driving the Incinerator Nova, wound up defeating my Viper, taking the top spot. He absolutely killed me on the tree, and my new engine as it would turn out, really wasn't broken in enough. I was running him down but then bogged huge on the big end as the engine was still very tight and hadn't really gotten the right tune yet. That rookie driver really drove it too, as he got out of shape at 80 ft but reeled it back in beautifully.
He also drove the Invader (original) Vette, but that car had a myriad of problems. Really struggled keeping it running right, and it stalled out on launch a couple of times. I need to open the engine up and take out the crank ramping. It also turns out that I installed the OWB inside the trans backwards, lol. Car would hit second gear and rev up.
My teammates all had really good days racing, lot of tremendously fast passes. Each event, the guys are getting more dialed in. The craziest car award goes to Alex and his front wheel drive Honda. That little thing scooted too. Honestly a few guys on the list are a bit scared of that thing
My Mustang, Hissed Off, laid down a series of really, really fast hits. We didn't have the timers up, but we'll look at the video and see what it ran - definitely low 2s range, on dry tire. The track was hot and sticky, and clean, so we were all pretty much just mashing the throttle.
The Viper I started getting it a bit better as the day wore on. I tried to send it as many times as I could to loosen the engine up. I did manage to get the tune more in and make some decent passes that weren't sending up a massive smoke cloud. Engine still felt super tight with the pull starter though, even when hot. Gonna have to just take the car out and run it heavily before the next race. When it was in though, it definitely had some wheel lifting power, it was just the top end the engine was fighting itself.
