This is a review of Xtreme Racing's Dual Threat 11.25" Bandit chassis found here.
I grabbed this chassis off of Amain on sale for an upcoming Pinto no-prep build based on a Bandit chassis. I ran into a snag on the Tekno build and need a replacement part. So that got set aside for now. With the downtime, I decided to go ahead and throw this together, just to do some test fitment, and see what all I'm going to need.
There are no instructions, but the parts are separated into bags per assembly areas, and using the pictures from the website, it's not too terrible of a build. I ended up using some of my own screws here and there, because I think some were meant to be for the plastic Traxxas transmission. You will need to supply your own M4 button head screws to attach the top plate to the bulkhead.
Fitment is spot on. Everything lined up absolutely perfect. All the countersunk screw holes are machined to the perfect depth. The hole locations for the transmission are dead on. No complaints. You can see the steering rack screws in top of the towers sit perfectly under the top plate if you zoom in. But I realized after taking pics those need to be cap screws I think. Derr. Trial and error.
The finish is great as well except for the edges not being chamfered. In FPV drones, you get used to frames that are silky smooth, with no sharp corners. I'll likely hit the edges with a little light sanding to knick the corners off, and add some CA glue to the edges. But the machine work is as good as I ever saw working with carbon fiber. Very nice machining goes a LONG way with me. And this chassis is NOICE!
There is no plastic here except for the injection molded servo mounts that come with this chassis. The battery straps and standoffs are all very nicely anodized aluminum.
Bottom line - If you're looking for a 11.25" no-prep chassis, look no further. This is the one to get. Heck, I want to check out some of his other products now
