local kid had one, seemed like a pretty nice buggy. only seen it run a few times, but seemed to be decent for the price. dont know if it was the 2 version of the original one.

he did have a few crib death issues. seem to recall the tie rod kept coming off from lost nuts and bolts holding it to the hub.
ran like a raped ape too.

I had a similar problem with the mammoth. After installing longer bolts, lucknuts and locktite, it was no longer a problem. The only other issues I really had were weak diffs and hinge pin holders bending easily. XTM used planetary gear type diffs. They weren't as strong as spider diffs. I'm not sure if the Xterm2 has spider diffs or not, but it would be a weak spot to look for.

Hello,

I myself own an x-terminator 2. This thing HAULS. It's insane.

Only problem so far has been me hitting things with it in the cold. Any plastic pieces will break with use.

XTM's customer service has been awesome. I had a receiver go defunct and i was shipped a new receiver, and the parts I broke when the buggy went full throttle into the front of my house overnighted to me.

I'd say definitely go for it. Also thing about a starter box, that made a world of difference on mine.

Good luck, and you really can't beat the on sale price of 260 bucks, especially with the new radios.

I.E. If it doesn't have threaded shocks, it has spider gear diffs, not planetaries, btw. Just to clear those up.:smart:

I've got the first one. If ya want something to bash, ya can't go wrong.
If you are planning to race, there aren't many upgrades.
The 24/7 is a great engine. Outdated, but an easy one to tune.

I never had any real issues with mine. Hobby People were great to deal with too.

Never been behind the wheel of the Buggy, but XTM has a long history of treating me right. My mammoth is a tank and after being one of my first nitro models it is still like it's fresh out of the box. The costumer service is amazing and there are tons of resources available to help you with any problem you might have.

The 24.7 is a decent engine for a buggy. I just got a jammin roller off a guy and I had a 24.7 sitting on the shelf that I had in a BB revo (for about a gallon, over powered). I threw it in the buggy and thought I'd have to gear down a bit. The original owner ran a 15T bell with a modified 21 in it. I started with a 13T and it was way to easy to max out the RPM's. I upped it to 15T and it's much better. I could probably be safe going at least one or two teeth taller, but then it would just be crazy fast for where I run.

Very solid engine. Mine has the big head and seems to like running around 220-240F. Much cooler/richer and it blubbers out and dies. Much leaner and it heats up to 270 pretty quick.

how did the starter box help and what gearing did you find to be the best ?

Well, I drove my XT2 for about 6 months. Got tired of replacing everything trying to race it. I was using the stock spur with a 13 tooth bell and an STS 21T motor. The motor was WAY too much for the car.

I'm not trying to bash anyone that owns one but I would save up and buy a quality car that will last longer.

IMO the XT2 is a great basher rig. I have seen both versions but not the "track ready" Xterminator. I heard it is supposed to be race worthy. That has yet to be proven. If you don' race but just bash I don't see it being a problem. Hobbypeople stock that so if you have one near you check to see what parts they do and do not carry.

Engine wise, I do not see any standard 21,26 being a problem. Like Olds said, gearing will need to be changed to accomodate the grunt and top speed.

I had a 24-7 Pro in a buggy, worked great. Also had a Picco 26 in a Hyper 7 and it worked till I put it in a MT. Anything more than a 26 is just not worth the cash. A decent 21 like Novarossi, or OS or RB Concepts ( just to name a few ) will do fine. Bigger does not mean it will work better.

That's a great car for the price point. My brother in law bought one and I have driven it a hand full times. It's quick, responsive and takes a good beating. It was an easy break in and tune. I am actually getting ready to buy two of them, one for each of my sons.
