has anyone gone with this motor in there savage?
if so do you like it and if not why.

I just bought my second one, It's the new style with the large cooling head. I paid $138.00 and walk all over the Hyper 8 ports. For the price you can't go wrong.

Yo Bigdog! Just installed one in my savage and let me tell ya this thing SPANKS!!! I could not believe how hard it pulls, even in the upper reaches of it's rpm band. Seen a savage run with a $500.00 C5 and think my hunk of junk will hang. Sometimes you get that one exeptional motor, but if that aint the case I would highly recommend the 24-7! Oh yeah, I alomst forgot, step up to a 15 tooth clutch bell, I know its only 1 tooth but you will not be disappointed. :OMG:

hey since u guys have the XTM 24.7 motor and u seem like u know it pretty good i got a question. i have one and it is going wierd on me. some times it will start but then it just bogs out. and then other times it just wont start. i havent had a gallon through it so it is still new. it has hella good compression so i know it isnt bad. what settings do u guys have urs at?

thankz

Bryan, how many turns out are your high and low needles set? One thing I noiced about the 24-7 is it likes to run fat on the top end, and lean on the bottom. Breakin setting is 3 1/4 turns out on the high end, but my rig runs at 4 to 4 1/4 turns out. Puts me in the optimal heat range of 250 to 270 degrees in this hot weather. But as we all know each engine has its own little quirks. Also what fuel? 20%, 30%? It makes a diffirence 'cause you have two different head shims. A .10mm is for 30% fuel and the .20mm is for 20% If you dont lower the compression with the 30% you will tend to overheat and run erratic. Usually after a subsantial breakin period it is wise to step down to a cooler plug if running the higher grade fuel.

Ok, lets get back to baisics. You say it starts then bogs out, and sometimes it won't start.
Start with both low and high needles at 3 1/4 turns. and set your idle screw to where you see a 1 to 1 1/2 mm gap in the carb barrel.
Get it started and let it warm up for a minuite, then check your transition (from idle to mid throttle), it should smoke like crazy and be sluggish if not die. lean out the high end a 1/8th of a turn (counterclockwise) until you get a good transition, a slight bog is normal. Do this until you can stab it and get that BUUWAAAAAAP sound. Drive it to see if you are still emitting a good smoke trail, if not your too lean.
On your low end you need to lean it until it dies when you stab it and then fatten it up a 1/16th of a turn (counterclokwise) until you can transistion from idle to full throttle smoothly. Then set the idle stop screw to meet your paticular taste. Just below engaging the trans.
If you still have problems check for air leaks around your carb and fuel system, old of contaminated fuel, or glow plug performance.

I hope this helps (if even a little).

o good ness. i had read on a web site where it says to put the low speed needle at about 7 1/2!! maybe that is why it is running bad. also i run O'donnell 20%. i will go out and try it again tommorrow with those settings. thankz for the help.

bryan

buy the book it says 7-1/2 on the low speed and 2-!/2 on the high speed so I think that is ok but the big problem I was having sounds like the same thing that you are going through.
Have you tried a hot plug like a mcoy mc 59 that was my hole problem I put that plug in and my problems were gone with the factory settings that I listed above. so if all else fails try that.

yes i run the mcoy 59 plug and i dont quit know where my low speed is but my truck runs good and doesn't get that hot.
