XL shifting problems

:\my problem is that when i get it up to high end in second gear the throttle starts to chop it wont shift into 3rd. when I shut of the truck and leave the motor run and throttle it up by hand it will shift into third but it seems like it is a little late . Any ideas out their , take anything I can get

Shift point is too high or your engines tune is off.

By "chop", is it smoking a lot and not running cleanly? Or does the engine seem to just drop RPM's?

the smoke is good the rpm's just chop up and down up and down. the only time it will shift into 3rd is when all electonics are shut off

You sure your throttle is opening all the way via the servo? Or maybe you have a glitching problem. Once the engine gets up to those RPM's, it's kicking out a lot of chassis vibrations that may be causing a loose connection to kill your servo or at the very least, make it twitch badly.

so what sould be the best place to start . i do know i have a bad bearing in the rear end just took it all appart.

Well, check to make sure your servo is opening the carb all the way. If it is, then fire it up while holding it in the air with the body off to watch it as you rev it up quick. Keep an eye on the servos and look for twitching. Don't hold it at WOT, just rev it up and watch the servos. If they don't move around on you, then it's either engine tune, clutch problem, slipper problem or possibly trans/drive train problem.

if i throttle it up and let off immediatly it just goes up then down if wot it will chop up and down

Sounds to me like it could be lean on the high speed needle. Try richening it up 1/4 turn and run it to see if you notice a difference.

checked servos they are good my stock throttle bars weren't letting the carb opening all the way so I put on a ofna throttle mod and it opens a ot farther now have to fix my rear end now, hope that does the trick thanks for all your help "Brannon"
