i am 16 and really dont have much experience with rc cars, my friend has one and i race with it sumtimes, my question is i really want to build a nitro car instead of buying a rtr. what would be a good car to start on. i dont care if it is a truck, buggy, or car just have to be nitro.

If you are a mechanical person, have lots of patience, and are ready to constantly tweak and tune your engine and suspension etc etc then I say GO FOR IT! Nitro is awesome. I personally have both nitro and electric, and to be honest the electrics don't get much run time compared to my nitros!
You'll learn volumes more about whatever car/truck you decide to get if you build it yourself. Being your first rc vehicle, you'll learn how everything works, and just as important how to fix it all when it breaks, because you'll break it!

Actually, it's not that hard to put together a kit as long as you have patience. After seeing different kits, I really think that the Team Associtated Nitro TC3 is a good kit for the average person. All the bags are labelled and the instructions follow the bags in sequence from A-J.
The only thing is that you'll still have to buy an engine and radio. Some kits offer engine's with the kit but they're usually not the best "mills" for the car.

The TC3 is a nice car. To be honest, I'd check out your local hobby shop. See which parts they have available or in stock. If you get a TC3 and the store don't have any replacement parts, you're looking at some downtime. I, myself, like the Mugen MTX... Mine came with an engine that's still going strong and competitive after a year and a half. Just didn't come with any electronics and body...

I would personally reccomend to you a Stadium Truck. You can run the truck onroad or offroad, having a blast wherever you run it. Jump ramps, slide around in the dirt/grass etc etc and they're a blast!
With the onroad cars, your asphalt bound, period. Once you hit the grass your running to save your car! I wouldn't get a car unless you have friends that have them and you can race around with them, or you think you'd like to race onroad cars at a track. Otherwise, I'd stick with a truck.
Also check out 1/8 scale buggies or maybe even monster trucks, they may interest you more than the stadium trucks do, and you'd have just as much fun with them.

I completely agree with GilBeQuick, on road is very limiting, I made the mistake of first getting an on road and found myself bored with it quickly. Once I got a truck I really began to have fun. I say go stadium truck or monster, you will be able to run almost anywhere, and have alot more fun. It also has a lot to do with where you live. Are you in a rural area with no place to run on road, or a big city with no where to run off road, what are your friends or others in the area running, it sucks having one type of vehicle while everyone else is running something else? What vehicles does your local hobby shop carry parts for? All these are things you should take in to consideration before buying anything.

Very good suggestions. I thought he had his mind set on and on-road. I have both on-road and off-road and I must say it's much more fun with an off-road. Jumps? Gravel? Dirt? Grass? All good fun. Then again, I have several friends with an onroad and it's really fun running in a parking lot with them.

i actually just decided to completely rebuild my car. i have an rc10ds and it needs some work so i decided if i took it apart and rebuild it i can work all the bugs out. i too am only 16 and have only been in the hobby for about a month or so. if you enjoy the mechanical aspect of nitro cars,m youll have a blast, i think i am fixing more than i am driving.
