Are aluminum clutch shoes worth the money over composite shoes? Do they really offer better performance or is it just a "cool factor" that's not really cool because nobody will ever see those purple anodized beauties anyway?

there are trades offs and differences to both. One of the +'s as Pirata mentioned is longevity.

Some people (icluding me) say they just don't grab like the composite/plastic type, I for one have tried both and I prefer a quicker engagement I seem to get from plastic. That's just me though.

A friend of mine melted his in his 21 max. Any idea how?

He bought a set from integy. They melted around the spring. He gave me the second set and I havn't used them yet.

I thought the al were supposed to last longer. His lasted 1 day.

I would imagine the friction was excessive due to the spring possibly being too tight and barely allowing contact to the Clutch Bell. Thus, it got hot FAST and caused the meltdown.

I havent run any alum shoes YET, but would love to check them out.

I too have been having this debate about purchasing some al clutch shoes or not. Just last night I picked up a set of composite clutch shoes for my savage the guy tried to tell me I wanted aluminum and I said why?? He tried to tell me how much better they where. I just couldn't spend the extra money on them. It's not to say I won't check them out in the future but I am happy with my composite ones for now.

I have also heard about problems with wearing through the clutchbell with alum shoes, see when you have apoint of so much abuse like the clutch area and bell something is going to wear out period, so if you think by buying alum clutch shoes you will never have to replace anything down there you are wrong.
