hi guys ,my rc car is finally ready to run and i solved any issues.. Now i want to try drifting it .. i know an electric is way better but i dont have that much money to buy one now ...so i bought drift tires, its awesome and i think i've got some skills :P .. allthough I'm worried about the engine temps, it hasnt shown any problem ,but i want to know if i can do any upgrades for my cooling ,just to be a little safer :) also i have a temp gun, but i dont know where i should point it to mesure the temp (in the head,in the exhaust ??) where shoud the temps be about drifting ? thank you

Check temps either at the bottom of the cooling head or inside the cooling head pointed at the glow plug. Long as your temps stay below 250-255 your fine. With drifting even electric you have to feather the throttle so long as your not going wide open throttle for long periods of time you should be fine. When you let off the gas the engine starts cooling itself pretty quick or it should with the right tune. Even running electric you will fry the ESC and motor with continuous WOT running. I drift my jato around my neighborhood tennis court all the time. Never had a issue.

ok thank you ,so if i see about 250-255 ,then its break time .. do you know if i can do any upgrade that would help it cool faster ?

Better cooling head. Long as you don't wot for long periods the stock cooling head will do just fine. Not really 275+ is when you really start damaging the motor.

Actually a lot of Traxxas engines run best at 275-285° in m experience. Most of the big blocks that I've run best about 230°. Tuning by temp isn't an absolute as most of the better tuners here will tell you.

I've never personally ever ran my engines that hot but I guess different states probably play into the equation. My engines run best around 220-225. Really just depends on the humidity. Sometimes they run like a bat out of h@## around 205-210.

Its all about that air flow with nitro engines. If you're using a body, cut some air flow holes in the front and rear windows and cut out a portion of the rear body panel.
Also run some cool down intervals, like running in a straight line at moderate speed to get air flowing through the cooling fins.
