I have a thunder tiger pro .12 engine and it is refusing to start. It ran before, i've only had the thing for 2 weeks. When it's cold, it starts, runs for about 3 seconds and then dies. from then on it wont start at all, and if it does, the moment i take the sparker out, it dies again. What is causing this and how do I fix it?

i tried that and it had absolutely no effect. do you think i'm running too lean? also i didn't know about breaking in the engine... havent done it. would if i could get the frikkin thing to start

If you've already ran it, break-in is done, although not properly, trying to do it now won't make any difference. Unfortunately, running the engine without the proper break-in can literally kill the motor. Most engines need to run at varying RPMs starting at the lower end and slowly working the way up to higher RRMs over several tanks of fuel, with cool down time between tanks. This allows the sleeve and piston to achieve a good 'fit' or 'pinch' and produce the best performance and longevity.

How long did you run the engine previously? How many tanks of fuel and what kind of driving did you do? You can try setting the needles back to factory settings and see if that will allow it to run.

i took the thing to my lhs and its workin now. also I'm taking it easy on the throttle now for a few tanks

now it's working, but I don't get a stream of smoke out the exhaust in the low range. I'm a real newbie so does that mean i'm running rich or lean?

You generally won't on the lower half of the throttle. It's when you get to the upper half of the throttle that you want to see a trail of smoke. I asked the same questions when I frist started out. Glad to hear they got it up and running for you.

How bout your fuses and the battery? Remember that the most common reason is a dead battery or a bad ignition switch. If your battery checks out, but the starter is still silent, it may be a faulty ignition switch.

batteries are fine, no fuses on my car. it's a pull starter btw. now, it stopped starting again. sometimes it does start, and stalls even when the sparker is still in. when i take the glow plug out, theres blackened fuel sitting on the piston, and it looks like some of the fuel has separated. so i get a cotton bud and clean it out, and it started, and died again. i have to redo the process everytime i want it to start for 2 seconds and die again. and then it just doesn't start at all, and theres still junk on the piston. suggestions?

do you have a normal tank or a one with a push button on the top? mines exact same engine and the guy across the sreet from me said that theres some air blocking the tube so fuel wont go to the engine. the push button pushes the air through the pipe and out of the engine (you will hear it), heres a example.

Who the hell is this guy. He obviously has zero Rc knowledge. so shouldn't be offering any. Looks like he is from a 1:1 car store or something. I know motor mechanics are basically the same but thats about it. No fuses, no ignition switches, no ignition coil, no spark plugs, and the Glow plugs dont even operate on the same concept as diesel.

:hehe: I think he made that one post and then realized he was on the wrong forum. :D

You need to run a tank through your engine to make sure it is warm before making any tuning adjustments. To increase your performance on the low end, make a 1/8 turn adjustment clockwise on the LSN(low speed needle). Run it for about 2 or 3 minutes and if your car is still sluggish at take off, make another 1/8 turn clockwise on the LSN. Eventually, you will find your desired take off performance.
