Whose got a wireless KB and mouse? I have the Microsoft laser 6000, and it is really starting to irritate me. I have to reconnect with the reset button on the receiver several times a week, and sometimes several times a day. Batteries are fine, location of the receiver is in a straight line.
I have to watch every letter I type when it starts to act up (without warning) because it will start randomly missing letters. Then the mouse gets stubborn. It always tracks, just the buttons get stubborn.
Oddly enough, it's never both at the same time. They're only 2 months old, and I'm ready to smash both of them.
Right now, the keyboard was flawless while typing this post, but that was after resetting it 4 times and slapping it senseless.

I had a similar problem. Did you try uninstalling and re-installing? Then updating the drivers?

Mine would always "not see" the KB and Mouse upon power up as well as what you were having.

Just another example of why everybody is switching to macs. I can't help you but I feel your frustration. When you buy a product, it should friggin' work. ya know?

My laptop with XP Pro works great. BUT my next will be a MAC. Just to try it and learn more.

Ya know, just as a ha-ha, do you know what frequency its' on? I bought a wireless lazer mouse some time ago, and every time my neighbor keys up his cb, my mouse would stop working.

Perhaps it's the same basic concept, only a cordless phone or some such other device?

Everything here is brand new. Unfortunately it's also Vista.
It came with a wireless KB and mouse that used a tiny receiver the size of a memory stick in the USB in the back. It never missed.
This one has a receiver with a wire to the USB, and it needs to 'see' the signals from the mouse and KB. I'm sick of it.
I bought this one for the ergonomics and the larger mouse.
Booting or rebooting, or just letting it sleep doesn't matter. I never know when it will start to act up.

i have wireless mouse and keyboard.

am running the microsoft comfort keyboard 1.0a, came with a mouse also but ditched the microsoft wireless optical mouse 2.0 for a logitech MXRevolution

and am absolutly diggin it. not a single problem besides the rechargeable AA"s in my keyboard poopin out

The next time it acts up, is there a way you can watch the indicator light on the reciever/usb adapter (if it has one)?

Leave Micro$oft (commonly known in the IT field as M$) products alone...not proven to be overly reliable (and some-what expensive); go for Logitec devices - better build and reliability

Had two sets of basic M$ multimedia KB/Mouse set...1 mice played up just after warranty period, other sometimes has tracking problems

currently favoring the Logitec LX710 wireless KB/Mouse pack...great with laptops as well. I'm sure roxel can agree with me on this one.

Last night I plugged in my laptop and the 3 month old Microsoft wireless mouse would not respond to any input. Your virus is spreading.

IMO wireless input devices are a bad idea......I have not used or seen any lash up that works reliably.

So PLUG back in.....with a good wired set.

Have I sent you an Email or PM lately? I'm trying to share.

Vista recommends just putting the comp to sleep. It doesn't need rebooting like the older versions, but last night I shut it off in hopes of another cold boot waking things up. Well, I've been slapping the poop out of this KB for randomly missing letters and spaces. I'm also getting into the habit of hitting the keys really hard to make sure they respond. I can't take my eyes off the text, since I have to watch for missed key strokes. I've about had it.

On the other comps I've had a logitec wired optical mouse for over 4 years. FLAWLESS!! I should have known better than to get the M$, but the decision was based on the feel and options of both.

hvymetalalchmst, I understand that Roxel is experiencing the same problem, and he's about to set up the stock wireless KB/mouse that came with the system. If it works out for him, I'll do the same thing till I get the logitec.

Not sure what the issue could be, Rolex. I have the M$ 1.0a KB/mouse combo and have had it for close to two years and not a single (knock on wood) issue (save for the batteries wearing out, but that's expected. Granted, I' still on XP Pro, so I'm wondering if you being on Vista may be the root cause of the issue?

Okay, done deal. I went to Office Depot a few hours ago to look at Logitec systems. When the salesman came over I asked if he knew of any inherant problem with the laser 6000s. I told him I'd had it at least 2 months, and explained the frustration, 2 sets of batteries (tried everything) and he suggested I bring it back, he'll swap it out, and for $12 a 2 year no questions asked in store replacement. Done.
Everything looks exactly the same, but there's a softer touch to the keys rather than clicks, so something has changed.
I bought the 6000 for the mouse. Comfortable size, back button, another button that opens a magnifying glass on the screen, and the wheel also rocks left and right for side to side scroll.
So far, so good. What a pleasure to type again without having to watch every single keystroke.
