The current favorite seems to be the Linksys WRT54G.

I currently own a Linksys BEFW11S4 and I have been very happy with it. I am using an old Orinoco Gold 802.11b Wi-Fi card. I would love to upgrade to a dual card but I have yet to find one that allows me to plug in a external antenna for my wardriving.
What does a setup like that cost plus the cost of the wireless card?

Hmmm I think I paid $125 after rebates and stuff for my setup. That should be about the average price if you go with something name brand. Trust me if you are purchasing new and going wireless than make sure you go 802.11G and not just B night and day difference.

EL that is what it cost me to do the wireless router and the wireless PC card. If you are seriously looking to do it LMK I'll hook you up with my stuff. I have to let it go. PM me if interested.

I'm about to buy a house and figured that would be the easiest way for a connection on multiple computers in multiple rooms with limited cable outlets.

Right now Best buy has the Linksys WRT54G on sale for $69.99.

They also have the Linksys 802.11g WMP54G PC Card on sale for $59.99. This would be for a laptop.

For a normal PC Best Buy has the Linksys SpeedBooster 802.11g Wireless Desktop Card (model # WMP54GS) on sale for $69.99.

Of course you can also go with Netgear or D-Link. The prices will be similar in cost.

Yes WEP is crackable but you need to be sniffing the wireless network for a very long time to be able to crack it. I doubt anyone will be doing that to someones home. They might do it outside a bank...If you change your WEP passphrase every month or so it would be a real hassle then.

That is true but if they don't know the SSID and the AP isn't broadcasting it there is no way for the person to know the wireless exists. Correct? Or am I missing something?

Nope your not missing anything your 100% ontrack. I have to do more research on SIDD broadcasting that turned is turned off... I wonder if there is a way around that??.... unless you want to be a Hotspot why would anyone even turn that on?
