No USB after installing a driver set.

I installed XP and all was well. When I inserted the Driver set disk supplied by the computer manufacturer the USB stopped working. I’m not getting any power to the KB, Mouse, or attached Hub after windows boots. I know it’s a driver issue.

With no KB or Mouse, how do I correct this issue?
I tried to boot up in Safe mode (f8) and still have no USB.

Do I attempt a “Repair” install from the OS disk?
Do I have to do a “New” install?
Any other option to remove or revert back to the “Stock” windows drivers without a KB or mouse after windows boots?

He-he! All sorts of fun.

What driver set did you try to install after you got XP completed?

A PS/2 KY and mouse will have you working just fine to get you through this.

ps. Send me a removeable HD and I'll take care of you!

You are getting into safe mode using F8 so the keyboard does work. Did you change anything in the BIOS?Possibly under the peripherals? My experience was the USB not working as well but the others did. I had to make sure the USB controller in the BIOS was enabled.

to ADD... Doing a Repair is not the most fun thing to do. I would rather FDISK it again and reinstall.IMO.

I would hook a PS2 keyboard and mouse up and try that before you reinstall. That way you can either remove or update the driver then. Also... there is one thing you can try..... it is a long shot but you never know. When you boot up can you press the spacebar to load the last known good config. What driver set you are you using? Depending on how old the driver set is and what version of XP you are running, the usb driver may have been picked up during the install, and been a newer version than the OEM version you tried to install. I have had this issue with ATI video cards.

PS2 is not an option I have only USB ports.
The rest of the story..

I’m installing XP native to a NTSF partition on a Mac Duo Intel machine.

The KB works until windows loads the driver set (Supplied by Apple) that’s why I can boot to safe mode. The USB works just fine under OSX.

This is not my daily machine so I'm open to whatever may work. I'm just messing around with this and have a full backup image of the original HD setup to go back to if needed.

I'm looking for a way to revert back to the default XP drivers that worked during XP install. From there I can update any non working devices manualy.

Ill try the space bar when I get home tonight.

Any other ideas?

If you have system restore enabled you can go back to the last know good restore point.

Is it enabled by default?
I installed XP rebooted as directed and installed the driver disk.
If so, how do I do it without KB or Mouse after boot?

Did a repair install on XP and installed the driver package again. Its all up and going just fine now. Must have been an error in delivering the drivers.
